A question for anyone NOT in America

Hi,

I just registered a domain name with the number "411" in it and was wondering if this number means anything to people outside of the United States. If you didn't know, 411 is the number we previuosly called for directory assistance. I say previously because with so many cell phones and the fact that most phone companies charge for directory assistance, I don't think 411 is used much anymore. But I still think "411" is ingrained in American slang as a synonym for information, which is why I chose it.

Do you think non-Americans associate "411" with information?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Perhaps not what you were looking for but it was a british girl band..

The 411 was a four piece English female R&B group formed late in 2002. The band formed after a couple of the members sang back up vocals on Lemar's version of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together". The band took its name after the Mary J. Blige song "What's The 411?". However as various members used to reside in both the towns of Molesey and Walton in Surrey, it is believed they are named after the bus route 411 that connects their towns to the local nightclubbing hotspot of Kingston-upon-Thames.

Sarah_Jayne 01-15-2008 01:11 PM

nope..even 911 doesn't mean anything in the UK unless people have heard about it on American shows and stuff. In the UK you dial 999 for emergency.

cezam 01-15-2008 01:18 PM

118 is also now one of the information services in the UK..though as of a few years ago you now have to pay for it. I can't remember the last time I used one because of that.
