Whats the most you have ever paid for a meal and was it worth it?

I paid $500 in Hong Kong for a sushi meal for 4 and I felt it was worth it ..then I paid $7 bucks for a mcdonalds meal and thought I got ripped off.

Whats your most expensive meal? and was it worth it?

Shey 01-14-2008 02:43 AM

$700 for 3 in a high class restaurant in Bangkok, the restaurant was highly recommended but the cool outdoors part was closed due to the rain. So we ended up eating inside, the food was mediocre, I wish I remembered the name of the place. Totally wasn't worth it!

Christina Muller 01-14-2008 02:47 AM

try to remember Shey,I spent a lot of time in Bangkok (well about 2 years) and after hongkong prices thought everywhere was a good deal to eat :) and the service was fantastic :)

V_RocKs 01-14-2008 03:09 AM

Per plate?

$160 and change in Vegas for Kobe Beef and it was awesome. Definitely would do it again.

We just got back from Hawaii and had a $360 meal for 3, but I actually enjoyed some of the $250 meals we had more then that one.

$7 for Mcdonalds in HK? I live in Hk and I find McDonalds here much cheaper than in the US, plus no sales tax.

Which restraunt for sushi did you go to?

The most I spent here was prob about $750 for me and my gf

RedShoe 01-14-2008 04:02 AM

$1,200 at L'Orangerie in West Hollywood on La Cienega.

spunkmister I lived in Hong Kong for 4 years my office was in Wan Chai and my home was near aberdeen.

I didnt undertand your point ,the most you paid was $750 for you and your girlfriend so? what relation does that have to my comment?

Mcdonalds in Hong Kong is very cheap I know that, you didnt ask what I had ?
you can spend 300 in mcdonalds if you order enough

The question I asked was simply ,Whats your most expensive meal? and was it worth it?

So all Im asking is describe the meal ,the cost, and was it worth it ....:)

Afternoon supper (dinner) that consisted of salad and choice of two dressings, chicken, roasted veggies, potatos, rolls and butter. Cost was close to 6,000.00 and worth every penny. Then again it was for my wedding.

I did not include costs of drinks, nor the wait staff.

About $600,- for 2. It was our anniversary and a friend of mine worked in the High end restaurant. It has 2 Michelin stars.

We had 6 courses, appetizers and so on. every course accompanied by an especially selected whine.

We spent 6 hours there and since my friend is the host we drank twice as much as the other guests.

I had a blast. I tasted things I didn't even know existed and the food / whine combos were top notch.

Oh and the misses was pleased too, and a bit tipsy meaning I got some guaranteed action back home. Perfect.

On my dates with the wife I rarely enjoy whines :winkwink: :1orglaugh Sorry I know what you meant.

Which place as not many have Michelin stars let alone 2. I know of one place in France were you can expect no less than 150 euros per person and that does not include any wines. Yet I hear from some of my culinary friends that it is worth every single penny. Though I worry about such places as I am still learning wines and have not fully developed a real taste for wines and although I would love a good teacher most wine people are fucking snobs and have zero patience to help someone really learn to like wine.

$700 in bangkok?! Damn, the most expensive restaurant I ate at on my last visit was a restaurant in Oriental hotel... and it was only like $100 per person.

k0nr4d 01-14-2008 04:39 AM

I think the most expensive meal I ever had was about $540. $60 for the food, and $480 for the speeding ticket I got while driving there.

Bake 01-14-2008 04:57 AM

Ive had a couple of dinners that have been over 2k for 4 and yes with Wine they were worth it.

alby_persignup 01-14-2008 07:34 AM

Gerco 01-14-2008 07:38 AM

Brother Bilo 01-14-2008 09:30 AM

$270 for 2 at Donovans in Phoenix. It was definetely worth it, great steak.

Ross 01-14-2008 09:34 AM

Miami 2006 on vacation my friend and his girlfriend took me for dinner as birthday gift to The Forge. Best steak I ever had. Meal cost around $500 for 4 of us, with 1 bottle of wine and a few Vodkas each for me and my friend.

Most I ever spent on a meal is around $200 for two people. Maybe $300 if you include a bottle of wine for my gf and a few Grey Goose for me.

I've had a few really expensive meals, and thought they weren't up to much.

Yet some cheaper ones have been great ! All depends where you dine of course. And the service that comes with it...

Isn't that the broad from Seventh Heaven? I hate that show, although, Jessica Biel is hot enough to deal with it until the commercial break.

BOSS1 01-14-2008 10:05 AM

400 for 2 at "linda vista" in acapulco. Worth it, huge lobster tail, shrimp and turf.

Christina Muller 01-15-2008 11:31 AM

looks like some big spenders hang out on gfy :thumbsup

evildick 01-15-2008 11:36 AM

I remember eating in the restaurant on top of the CN Tower in Toronto. It was fairly expensive, but what bothered me the most was that the food tasted like shit.

You couldn't even order a normal steak. All they had was some kind of shitty roast beef that tasted like they boiled it in water.

I would have rather gone to the Keg and spent 1/4 the amount and got something that tasted good.

edit: the view was nice though.

150 euros per person (220 dollars) is quite common in star restaurants over here... insane! Going out for dinner is getting retty expensive...

bronco67 01-15-2008 12:30 PM

100 bucks at Bobby van's in Manhattan...and no, it wasn't worth it.

Emil 01-15-2008 12:36 PM

lol, like it's worth spending ~$300 on one meal and then say it was worth it...
Any decent chef can get the same ingredients and make the same meal for 10 people for the same money. Get back to reality.

The most I've spent on a meal is about $60/person. And no, it wasn't worth it.

Star 69 01-15-2008 12:36 PM

Her name is Catherine Hicks.
As Brother Bilo said, she was the mom on 7th heaven which wason TV for 9 years and featured Jessica Beil and I think Jessica Simpson's younger sister.

She was also the mom from Child's Play, and is married to my ex-ex-boss, and so they took us out to Dinner. At that time she was at the top of her game.

DaddyHalbucks 01-15-2008 12:41 PM

Probably Nikki Marina in Hollywood, FL. They have a shellfish platter that is to die for.

600$ for 2 at a steakhouse here in Montreal
included an amazing bottle of red

Next probably comes 180$ per person at a tasters menu including wine with every course

both were worth it

tranza 01-15-2008 01:55 PM

I've paid around $400 for 2, in a couple different places down here in Brazil already.

Both times were definitely worth it.

:2 cents:

G-Rotica 01-15-2008 02:23 PM

I can't remember the most, but I do remember the best. There's this place called Tyler & Downings, in the little town of Anamosa Iowa. It has by far the best steak I have ever had. Aged beef, and the guy knows what he's doing. By far the best food I have ever had.

Christina Muller 01-15-2008 08:06 PM
