Where was the birthplace of Hip-Hop (arguing with Pete about it..help)

Pete and i are talking about Hip Hop and disagree on where it was started. the Birthplace of hip-hop.

where would you say hip hop started??

tony286 01-13-2008 07:59 PM

the bronx
Main articles: East Coast hip hop, Music of New York City

New York City (specifically the West and South Bronx) was the birthplace of hip hop, in 1973 and all of its prime early movers, such as DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, Caz and Afrika Bambaataa grew up and began performing there.

The boogie down Bronx!

The Rappers from Queens were the first to put it, on Vinyl, and make it big, and that group was called the Sugar hill gang!

Detroit? That's hilarious.

beemk 01-13-2008 08:29 PM

definitely not detroit, there was mabye a few hip hop groups from detroit in the 80s, detroits most wanted is the only one i can think of off the top of my head. nothing really was popular in detroit until the 90s, which was 15-20 years after it was invented in nyc.

Herb Kornfield 01-13-2008 08:29 PM

NYC .... The one and only.

Check out the movie / clips from "wild Style" .. old school NYC graf and early hip hiop masters ...

Born and raised in Westland but used to street race in that area. I live in Salem now, moved rural for my kids.
Kinda met you in Vegas last year, you were going one way and I was headed the other, chatted briefly and never had the chance to follow up with you.

don't worry man. 99% of them can't tell the difference between techno and other forms of electronic music.

techno isn't a bad thing.

house music originated in chicago, in a club called "the warehouse".

theres documentation and history on house music all over the web. the story to why its called house music is very interesting. it wasn't frankie knuckles that created house.
