FACT: Conventions = shit
They've lost their usefulness years ago. Too much much of a party, too little biz.
|
I have to disagree...
Coming from somehow who is much newer to the industry then a lot of people here, the conventions have been a huge help with my getting my products out there, and meeting like minded people... granted I may not still feel the same way in a few years, it is what you make of it... I walk away from every show with a fair amount of business done. |
Wife made you stay home didn't she?

its funny we are a net industry but still need to meet face to face.
|
I've never gone to one... If I did it would probably be more for the partying than business.
|
Conventions are always great for me. I did a lot of business at AEE this year with movie production and a new movie distribution deal and I expect to accomplish some big things at Internext also.

whats wrong with parties?
goddamnit i work hard to go to shows and party my ass off. lollllll |
they are fun.. phx is great
|
have you seen the photos from conventions? it's the same 10 or 20 people in every pic at every show. looks worthless.
|
I stopped going in 2002... only because I had other shit to do. But I'm here now, and having a great time. I went to the show at the Hard Rock in August and then in Amsterdam in October, between the two I did over a million dollars worth of business. :) Plus I had a blast! Gonna do the same thing here at Internext. It's always fun to see people I've done biz with for the last decade. And good to plot and scheme new ways to make money with them. Plus, I really like a lot of them and it's just plain fun.
|
And how many do you attend each year to be basing this thread off of?
|
Twinkies not sponsoring this year? is that why you're staying Sumo?
|
It is a great way to see 20 people you need to see in 3 days time.
But yeah... Sometimes the party aspect gets in the way. Especially when people party till the sun comes up, miss the show floor and then don't show up for the next parties until 10pm... Makes it hard to do business with someone when they cannot put business before pleasure. |
buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuump
|
I cant get to Vegas but I am going to XBiz - Its going to be hard not to party too much.
I can see me dragging my ass to the floors with a major hangover - I think I will have to be careful and then blow out big time on the last night. |

Not to sound cliche, but conventions now like before, are what you make of them. I go to more mainstream than adult (and I do a lot of adult), but I never regret going to one, or come away feeling it was a waste. But then, I don't feel the need to party until dawn, or drink myself into a condition that I won't remember what I said the night before. So your results may vary. |

You fucking change your tune constantly. First you're calling me an asshole in this thread. Then you're calling me an asshole in general.
Make your fucking mind up idiot. God I can't take your fucking stupidity and flip flopping fucking ways. I got a feeling you aint gunna last at mc. |

You would have trouble finding someone that has ever seen me drunk. |

I made it clear I didnt like you over 5 years ago when I first came to GFY. I would call that consistant.... If you think I wont last at MC because I dont like you, you are very WRONG. |
TOTALLY DISAGREE.. you have to know how to correctly work a convention.. thats all. Im in bed at 1030pm everynight during a show and I get the most out of it.

drama........?

I haven't attended a convention adult or mainstream yet, but I would think all it takes is learning one thing, or making one deal to make the entire trip a positive. Sure there will be parties, but you can still get some business done I can imagine before parties. And not everyone is into the big club scene so you can do other things during those times.
|
Well.. ask me how I feel about conventions on Wednesday.
I'm sitting at the Palms on the eve of my first. I don't drink much (won't here), don't party much, don't do drugs, don't do women. Either I'll get alot of business done and put faces with names of people I've talked to online for years OR I'll be extremely bored. PK |

Yo Bro. Headless and I are at the round bar. Whats your cell bro? I will buy you a drunk Bro... |

But it's also not for everyone. There are a lot of guys who have made millions and never been to an adult show (as well as vice versa). I think those who think they are useless are basing it on the fact that they see a lot of people going who really don't need to go and just want to party. |

All above preciscely why I stay at home here... :)
|
I do my business over ICQ, and go to conventions for the parties :)
There is huge value in a face-to-face introduction though. |

Hope to see you soon. |
I disagree. Conventions can be highly productive. Even though we work on the net, it's good to meet face to face. It makes current projects stronger, and people you meet face to face instead of ICQ for the first time.
The truth is to treat it the proper manner. Conventions can be fun but only if you can do both work and fun. I remember working for Lightspeed Cash during the Florida Internext, partying all night, sobering up, and opening up the booth at 9am. |

I'm a master at getting the most of both |

Sounds logical. |

I stopped a while ago and started saying at that point conventions have become shit because of the parties. So yes, it does sound logical. |

That sounds logical to you? |
