Krav Maga who's practicing it?

I'm thinking of starting a course for it...I know how to fight pretty well but
I guess never can fight well enough.....saw some youtube clips and I like
that simpleness and effectiveness of it. So who's practicing it and how do you
like it? :thumbsup

Ok Cool thanks, maybe I should add I'm not interested in learning howto
fight pretty....I don't care about pretty and complex techniques...what I
like is quick, cruel, effective dissabling the opponent....:thumbsup

Hey,

Harold rijkserkend krav maga instructeur.

lol, I took Krav Maga in the 7th grade, and from what I remember it's 90% oriented in the balls area... kick in the balls, elbow the balls, bit the ballz.. funniest Karate style ever!

Krav Maga is a bit of a strange beast. I personally don't like any martial art that teaches you to disarm guns, because in all reality it's very silly.

An example is in Costa Rica we had a guy who's trained a lot in Krav, and he insisted and showing various techniques. One day he asked me to "hold your fingers like a gun and put them to my head". I obliged and he did a pretty slick and pretty quick disarm technique. When I asked to start again but this time I just took 2 steps backwards in to a modified weaver stance before pretending to point my fake gun, he just stood there staring at me. Nothing he could do, and he knew it.

Personally, I would look in to some Judo. It's loaded with tradition and it's a really usable, effecient art. If you can throw somebody hard, it takes all the fight out of them right on the spot nine times out of ten.

Just my two cents.

I tapped out a Krav Maga guy who practiced for over 10 years.

His ego got hurt and never came back.

Anyway, don't waste your money on bullshit martial arts. Take a boxing class, kick boxing class or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

I'm black belt Judo and have done a decent amount of Jiu Jitsu... I know
it's not all very realistic.....IF your oponent knows what's about to happen
but usually they don't a big part of the effectiviness seems like the suprise
effect as a guy with a weapon usually doesn't expect his target to make
a move for it.....

Another part what attracts me is the training of natural responses and
reflexes which Krav greatly depends on unlike most other forms of martial
defense arts. I'm not going to try it with the idea to become unbeatable
or some badass street fighter.....but I get what you're saying :thumbsup

Done boxing for years too....you can beat anyone even if without fighting
skills.....a big heavy object like a glass ashtray can knock out anyone especially
when he least expects it....:winkwink:

np.

i forgot where his gym is. i don't think its in Amsterdam... i keep thinking its in rotterdam. if you really want to learn effective, practical fighting - i.e. devastating striking and kicking that has been proven in centuries of real world fighting, rather than centuries of jackasses in small, typical martial arts schools with everyone focused on living a fantasy of being a "fighter", there is nothing better in my opinion than muay thai/kick boxing and holland has a lot of great fighters and gyms.

If you already are a BB in Judo, you are wasting your time with Krav Maga.

First rule of a fight.

* Hit First, Hit Fast, and Don't stop Hitting*

There, now you know Krav Maga.

Brother Bilo 02-20-2008 01:03 PM

I would suggest kickboxing or muay thai if you want to know how to pummel people in real life. Pretty much any martial arts only work if they guy youre fighting is fighting by the same rules as you. That shit is for movies.

munki 02-20-2008 01:08 PM

It's been catching my eye lately... there is a studio up the way I might try out...
