Just FYI...It takes alot of time, calls, bids, etc...Damn

slapass 01-11-2008 10:00 AM

Shaze 01-11-2008 10:01 AM

Viper.X08 01-11-2008 10:08 AM

Cyndalie 01-11-2008 10:52 AM

cheekycherry 01-11-2008 10:56 AM

till then renting is fine...

baddog 01-11-2008 10:59 AM

The last one I bought was pretty stress free. Guess it gets easier as you go along. Remodeling a house, now that is stressful.

I'm actually looking forward to remodell is. Getting a new bathroom, breaking walls between the kitchen and livingroom, adding a new kitchen, etc etc. I'm looking forward todo that. To bad, everything you will do in the house will be so damn expensive.

lol... whats getting married has to do with it?

Brother Bilo 01-11-2008 11:05 AM

I'm in the final stretch. House should be done in less than a month, so now I'm dealing with insurance, utilities, foreman, and the builder to get everything wrapped up in time.

I just want it all to be over and get moved into my house.

tony286 01-11-2008 11:05 AM

When we bought our first house, the ibill mess was going on. So Im buying a house, moving my office also and a dime hadnt come in in 2 months. It can be very scary. lol

Are you married? It is said that a remodeling is the most stressful thing a married couple can do together.

Right now, I'm single and renting some place which is fairly small but perfectly fine for my current lifestyle.

Don't really have a reason to buy something better, bigger etc and arrange all of it by myself so that i can sit it in and browse GFY ;)
or.. decide that I want to live on another part of the globe 1 year later.

Sure, renting is rarely the best option financially, but I value my freedom the most. If I was getting married, I'd obviously have to buy something though... and I guess it would be fun.

anyway, this thread isnt about me

MikesTraffic 01-11-2008 11:36 AM

I have been in my house for 3 months. It was my first house, I'm 21.....I had a very stress free easy purchase....the mortgage company told me i was very lucky that everything went as smooth as it did

I do have a GF, but we are not married yet. I know it can be stressful, but I'm a relax guy, who don't care that much about the modelling. As long as my GF is happy with it, and it's not pink I'm fine :)

pink in the middle? :winkwink:

2 weeks and the first pink xenos coasters will show up in your house trust me :)

Peaches 01-11-2008 11:58 AM

BUYING the house has always been the easy part for me. FINDING one I like is a different story. I looked at over 200 houses before I found the one I'm in now. I had finally gone to a builder and scribbled down some rough plans. Damn if this house isn't an almost exact copy of those plans ;)

If you can afford to buy a house, buy one!!! it is a good time to buy, prices are low!!! Yes, it is stress, it's a pain in the ass, but when you walk into YOUR house for the first time, it's worth it!! Plus, buy BEFORE you get married so just in case the marriage doesn't work, you keep your house! Not trying to be negative about marriage, but you have to be careful! If you buy your own house, meet a nice girl that has a career, you can buy a house together and rent your first house! Then when you retire, you sell both, move somewhere cheaper and warmer and live the good life!!! :2 cents:

CC 01-11-2008 01:13 PM

Yup, it sure is. Once you get settled, it makes you want to stay put for a long time :)

Mediachick 01-11-2008 01:18 PM

You think buying a house is stressful? You're right, it is. But wait until it doesnt work with your partner and you have to sell it. I've been trough both and I'd happily buy again, but I really hope I never have to sell it again. :(

No thanks. Would take like 2-3 years, a lot of trouble for permits etc etc. Ever tried to build a smal place for some bicycles in your OWN garden in The Netherlands? If so know how much trouble THAT can give, you know what I mean :D

That sounds like me. I'm all set the hardest part right now is finding the exact one I want. I'm picky and have every reason to be. But very excited to be buying my first house after all the hassles I've had in the past with others and been having with my current landlord...

Fucksakes 01-11-2008 01:57 PM

owning a house is stressful too, 1 year owning my house, backyard is flooded, roof in garage is leaking, basement needs to be finished, got to buy all these new things for around the house, walls need to be painted.. fukcing endless really.. so it feels like..

Sosa 01-11-2008 02:17 PM

Try having one built, and dealing with contractors!

Varius 01-11-2008 02:22 PM

It's a very quick and easy transaction when you buy it cash :)

Simply sign a few papers and transfer the money. At least in Costa Rica that's how it went for me.

I bought my condo for $120K two years ago and now have people coming to see it this weekend, to purchase it from me in the $200-220K range (hopefully).

Then I can finally start building a medieval castle :pimp

collegeboobies 01-11-2008 04:40 PM

I bought a house at 21 years old and it was not much harder than buying anything else, just had to wait about a month for paperwork to all go through.

Yeah, this is the first house I've really spent that much time on because I want it to be my "forever house". Of course, when I moved here to get away from it all, it all followed me and now there's traffic at lunch and we actually have a rush hour :( I've been looking at buying land further out and building the exact same house but with thicker logs and maybe an extra 2 feet along each of the 4 main log walls.

But I DO love the house, the property, the subdivision - just the town is getting too suburbanized.

Hey hey hey.. whats the matter with pink?

After Shock Media 01-11-2008 07:17 PM

Odd mine was pretty simple as well and it was far from traditional. I found someone in trouble and I paid him a lump sum and took over his mortgage. In effect I guess it would qualify as a no money down cause once paperwork was done I was up 30k in equity and that's after paying the dude and his family for the place and to have them relocate. Its owned outright now and I also have remodeled every single area of the house so far except the kitchen which I have planned for spring. Then effectively the house will have been rebuilt from the inside out, new plumbing, new wiring, insulation, redid a lot of the framework you name it.

Now coming up soon I very well will be looking at a few other places to purchase as rental units. Will have more info after the end of February.

tical 01-11-2008 07:29 PM

i got mine pretty simple... apparently the old owner had to dump it cuz he was on the run so i got a decent deal on it and we closed real quick

Drake 01-11-2008 08:47 PM

Bids? Wow, that has to be stressful. How many other offers are you competing with?

When I bought it was stress free and fun. No bidding though.

collegeboobies 01-11-2008 10:47 PM

I made an offer, the builder came back, I accepted, 100% financing and only $4000 total closing costs for me. House has gone up a lot in value since and the only pain in the ass was waiting for closing date, and printing a few documents. Stated income.

shahab6 01-11-2008 11:12 PM

its very stressfull, search for house, then loan and ets.

We found remodeling stressful & we have run a business together for years i.e. we are used to working together. But we have still decided to build a house. I guess we like stress! :upsidedow

rowan 01-12-2008 12:05 AM

I've built one house and looking to build again this year. It's much better drawing up a list of everything you want then whittling it down to something affordable/acceptable, rather than trying to add to an existing place.

Around here it takes about 2-3 months for tendering and contracts, another month or two for permits, then 4-5 months build time. Should be less than a year from the time you walk into the sales office and say "that looks cool, where do I sign"

rowan 01-12-2008 12:06 AM

BTW the actual build process can still be pretty stressful, a lot of things can go wrong or something comes up that isn't exactly spelled out in the contract so an on the spot decision needs to be made. I was working from home at the time (still do) so I was able to handle just about everything that came up. If you were working at a full time job it would be a lot more difficult.

oh, brother... for one many countries have no prenups (sp) and after the divorce what you own will get split in half and it doesn't matter if you bought it before or during the marriage

Believe me, even if you want to fart you should have a permit here, which takes months....

It's funny how relatively simple you can buy/build houses in some countries. BTW only the transactions costs alone are already around 45.000USD. Just for all the paperwork/tax etc.

Violetta 01-12-2008 06:25 AM

Yeah... It is a mess. But what a great feeling it is when it's all done!

Rui 01-12-2008 07:33 AM

Have no real idea, but I'd imagine its like 100x worse than buying a car (which is already a major pain in the ass)

Goodluck, congrats and be patient though! :)

Dagwolf 01-12-2008 11:30 AM

It's definitely a pain in the ass...

ServerGenius 01-12-2008 11:35 AM

And you end up always paying more money than they tell you it will be
