WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A series of newsletters in the name of GOP presidential hopeful Ron Paul contain several racist remarks -- including one that says order was restored to Los Angeles after the 1992 riots when blacks went "to pick up their welfare checks."


This is a copy of one of the "Ron Paul Political Report" newsletters, which has stirred controversy.

1 of 2 CNN recently obtained the newsletters -- written in the 1990s and one from the late 1980s -- after a report was published about their existence in the New Republic.

None of the newsletters CNN found says who wrote them, but each was published under Paul's name between his stints as a U.S. congressman from Texas.

Paul spokesman Jesse Benton told CNN the material was not written by Paul, and that he finds them "abhorrent." CNN asked the presidential contender for a direct response. He is to appear on CNN's "The Situation Room" Thursday afternoon around 5 p.m. ET.

"I have publicly taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name," Paul said in a written statement

OK.. so if something is true, you aren't supposed to say it?

The fact that Ron Paul say that "He takes moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name" is really disturbing to me. As a Half Black Man, i don't want your "moral response". So you didnt proofread a newsletter. That is not a moral decision in the least. Do any of the program owners here proofread all the newsletters they they launch to affiliates because of a moral responsibility. No. Its a simple managerial responsibility that causes the top guys to actually take the time to read how they are being represented. I dont want someone for a President who thinks theyll abolish the CFR and Blockade the Hell out of Mexico, by not reading what his speechwriters are drafting for him. Give me a break, and Give me Mike Gravel. I manlove that old fart.

Oh, and you can tell Paul this: I dont want your moral responsibilty. I want a name, give me a name. Give me the name to the guy who wrote black people are welfare cases, and I'll be on my way...

Its quite entertaining why Paulites cant get it in there head why one persons good idea is a another persons really kooky idea. First Iowa, Now New Hampshire. Why does Paul keep losing. Let me get this straight.

A comment made shortly after the LA riots about rioting blacks picking up their welfare cheques is racist and unacceptable. But we should forget about the number of people they killed while rioting, because of course that's not important. They're black Americans, they must be the victims. I guess the important thing is that we don't hurt their feelings??

Black people do make up a disproportionate amount of welfare recipients. Unfortunately the problem isn't likely to be solved any time soon because the only thing blacks do to address the issue is call anyone that points this fact out "racist".
