If you stay at a hotel and they increase the rate without telling you.. what can u do

So I was at a hotel for 10 days. My first day was Dec 28. They increased the rate by 40% effective Jan 1 without telling me.. so 6 days I spent here with this increased rate without even knowing. What can I do about this?

teg0 01-09-2008 07:48 PM

bitch and/or complain

Evil E 01-09-2008 07:52 PM

Try to solve the problem with them, explaining them that you agreed for the rate when you checked-in and no one told you it would go up 40%.

If everything fails and you are still in MTL, you can give these guys a ring

Myst 01-09-2008 07:53 PM

I wanna win this for sure though. Cause this is bullshit. I dont want to hear 'im sorry thats our policy' when I bitch on the phone tomorrow

What can I do?

CurrentlySober 01-09-2008 07:54 PM

Burn the hotel to the ground, then spit at the manager and say 'Hah! That fucking showed YOU... BITCH!'

Did you have a reservation for 10 days? If so they can't just raise the quoted price on you. If they did don't sweat it. If a call to their corporate office won't rectify it I'm sure you paid with your credit card, and you can just dispute it through them...

i didnt have a reservation..
id just wake up and call the front desk and tell them to extend another few days

DatingGold 01-09-2008 08:17 PM

I would complain and start yelling in the lobby when alot of customers are there.. Did you initial the new rate? if not aint shit they can do.

All else fails destroy the place, clog all the toilets

Shey 01-09-2008 08:17 PM

Talk to the manager and ask to see your registration card, the one they make you sign when you check in. Unless the rate change is there, they need to honor the rate quoted. If all else fails, ask for a copy of the registration and dispute it with your credit card company.

If you made the reservation online, see if you can get the confirmation printed as well. Good luck :thumbsup

Oh, just read that... If you extended by phone you are kinda screwed since at that point they can charge you whatever the going rate is. BUT if they didn't tell you of the rate change when you extended you can still bitch to the manager.

Sadly, your cc company most likely won't stand with you on this one...:2 cents:

Unless he used an AmEx. That is why I love them so much, and merchants universally hate them. They almost always side with the consumer unless you absolutely have no case...

Then you're fucked if they decide not to work with you. Why on earth would you assume your rate wouldn't be changing if you're extending your stay like that.

You're fucked. They hate Canadians in Florida. Especially now that the Canuck dollar is worth more than the Bush dollar.

Then I would guess that you are screwed in that case.

Certainly you realize that rates fluctuate. Assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

True that, amex is the shit when it comes to that but still there's a good chance the hotel can win the charge back. Trust me I won quite a few like this one myself :winkwink:

thanks all

Sorry, you're outta luck. When you do that you're paying whatever the daily rate is at the time and you're not guaranteed a rate. Otherwise people would check in on the cheapest day and stay for a week hoping to get the cheapest daily rate. When you just call the front desk and ask to extend the duration, you're paying the worst rates.

If its a chain then bitch to the corp headquarters - keep going up the chain until someone sorts it out.

Same thing happened to me with a hotel in Munich. I sent the hotel's email confirmation in to the bank to dispute it. That was in October. Just got the final letter yesterday that the "temporary credit" they gave me is now a permanent credit. They tried to fuck me out of $500.00+
