Meanest Mom on the Planet.. sells her 19 yr old sons car she just bought.. ha!

I thought this was funny...

but I do commend her actions... too many drunk drivers are out there...

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Jane Hambleton has dubbed herself the "meanest mom on the planet."

After finding alcohol in her son's car, she decided to sell the car and share her 19-year-old's misdeed with everyone -- by placing an ad in the local newspaper.

The ad reads: "OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don't love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet."

Hambleton has heard from people besides interested buyers since recently placing the ad in The Des Moines Register.

The 48-year-old from Fort Dodge says she has fielded more than 70 telephone calls from emergency room technicians, nurses, school counselors and even a Georgia man who wanted to congratulate her.

"The ad cost a fortune, but you know what? I'm telling people what happened here," Hambleton says. "I'm not just gonna put the car for resale when there's nothing wrong with it, except the driver made a dumb decision.

"It's overwhelming the number of calls I've gotten from people saying 'Thank you, it's nice to see a responsible parent.' So far there are no calls from anyone saying, 'You're really strict. You're real overboard, lady."'

The only critic is her son, who Hambleton says is "very, very unhappy" with the ad and claims the alcohol was left by a passenger.

Hambleton believes her son but has decided mercy isn't the best policy in this case. She says she set two rules when she bought the car at Thanksgiving: No booze, and always keep it locked.

The car has been sold, but Hambleton says she will continue the ad for another week -- just for the feedback

she told him no booze...he is lucky she bought him a car in the first place

TheSenator 01-09-2008 03:32 PM

AMEN! I wish I had parents like that... I had no rules growing up.

kane 01-09-2008 04:17 PM

He is lucky. When I was 19 my mom knew I would sometimes go to parties and drink but I always stayed there. If she found booze in my car and found I had drove while drinking (even if I wasn't drunk) the only picture in the newspaper would have been one of a bunch of cops standing around the crime scene where my dead body was found.

Spunky 01-09-2008 09:10 PM

I think the kid deserved what his mom did..damn punks

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 01-09-2008 09:41 PM

I'm sure there's much more to the story than we can read. Good move mom!

Rochard 01-10-2008 01:06 AM

More parents should do this.

evildick 01-10-2008 06:46 AM

I guess I'm the only one that thinks she's a stupid bitch. Sure sell the car, that's fine and makes sense.

But what does publicly (and now globally) humiliating the son accomplish? Especially since she acknowledges he wasn't even drinking and driving?

Sounds like she just wanted some attention for herself. Most likely the type of person that writes letters to the editor constantly.

k0nr4d 01-10-2008 07:15 AM

What a dumb bitch. Chances are someone was in the back seat with a bottle of vodka and it rolled under the one of the front seats. I probably have at least 2 bottles in my car in that very spot, and I even carry a bottle of emergency vodka in my drunk.

Otter 01-10-2008 07:19 AM

thats one mean mother

Joe BrainCash 01-10-2008 07:42 AM

Mean Mom for president!!

Ycaza 01-10-2008 10:09 AM

LOL thats awesome.....she did do the right thing I think

CDSmith 01-10-2008 12:11 PM

Bravo to her. Nice to hear about parents who know how to administer tough love, there's definitely not enough of it these days.

As for the kid, if he had of gotten off his ass and worked and EARNED enough to buy his own car he probably wouldn't have this problem. Then again, if he earned his own wheels there may not have been any booze in the car to begin with. I find that kids who buy their own cars with money they worked and sweated for tend to cherish them more and treat the vehicle better than those storebought little prince and princesses do who get new cars handed to them on their 16th birthday by mommy and daddy.

Brother Bilo 01-10-2008 12:23 PM

That's so weird. You mean to tell me this Mom held her son accountable for dumb shit he did instead of blame tv or video games? I thought they were to blame for all the dumb shit kids did these days.

zigx 01-10-2008 12:29 PM

Ha thats great!

KILL_FRENZY 01-10-2008 12:31 PM

mean indeed
