What's wrong with the math
People say no profit in porn anymore...fine, perhaps the revenue stream has diminished, but can't see why anyone thinks it is dryed up.
A small site with 30,000 uniques per day. If it has a raw exit sponsor paying just $3 per k, and assume 50% of hits aren't counted due to using proxys, popup killers, or from countries not counted, that works out to 30,000 x ($3 / 1000) x 50% x 30 days = $1350 per month Not bad pocket change. This doesn't even include banners or dialers or other things on the site itself. What's wrong with the math or is this correct? |
It always sounds good on paper but most people still don't make that sort of money. And $1350/month may not be enough to pay the bills if you need to pay for bandwidth and maybe new content regularly too. Plus out of all the people who try...only a handful maybe just 30k users per day. It's usually much less.
Still though, there is good money to be made...you just have to be innovative... |

Apollo is on the right track. There is way more to this than meets the eye. Now it's not rocket science, mind you, but it's not simple any more like it was a few years ago.
Bandwidth, content, programming, processing, wondering if your processor or some sponsor is going to jack you on payouts -- it almost always does happen too -- are just the start of things. This of course is before you add a reseller program or anything like that... |
Yes you can do it, i am doing it right now in my little one bedroom apartment
|
Ahh I remember those days...back when CPMs were around paying really well, sponsors offered .12 per click without ratios and one could advertise on the usenets without everyone and their dog mailbombing you and having your ISP shut you down.

But that's the situation in most of the business world. |
I think the idea that it is impossible for the upstart to make money is partially a result of those who are established want to protect their corner of the market. I can't cite anything in particular, and of course no one is going to stop you from starting a site, getting trades and selling other things with sex as the vehicle.. and very few people are blacklisted because they are so good at stealing business from the other big timers..
..but more than that, I think the vast difference between the biz 6+ years ago and now means that while the money is there, it isn't immediately there.. and for 98% of people who turn to porn as a get rich quick scheme are quickly disappointed and curse the industry for not having profit opportunities, which is only valid when the entrepeneur has no originality, no goals and no time/effort invested. |
Trust me,, no one is worried bout another new adult webmaster taking everyone elses money, its not gonna happen
|
there is money in everything if you know how to make it.
if you dont know how to make it it does not matter what industry you will attempt to enter you will make $0.00 |

There is a fortune to be made in porn, 9 months ago no one had heard of me, well few, and now some know us and wished they did not:) But in those 9 months our business has changed. We now turn over more money from the Net than we do from the mags, and that increased this year, plus we will go into new projects very soon. The reason is we were already in the business, understood it, had good product and the ability to produce more. The difference with the Net is the delivery method. Too many new guys know design, programming, surfing and all the other computer releated things. Problem is they do not know a pretty girl from an ugly one and porno from meat. The surfer with money does. What we did in 9 months is proof there's still money in porn, because we survive from guys like the ones reading this thread. But if you are coming into the business and want to make money. Think. What am I selling porn or the Internet? Porn is what the guy logged on to buy, the Internet is just the mall he buys it from. |
