When's the best day to buy fish from the grocer?

Keep in mind, I don't live in a coastal city. Live in midwest.
Should you go on a wednesday, a friday? Is one day fresher than the other? (i.e. do supermarkets stock up for the weekend blitz?)

Friday early afternoon, monday afternoon

tony286 01-09-2008 09:06 AM

Probably mondays.

borked 01-09-2008 10:05 AM

why not just ask your fishmonger when he takes stock?

Probably the best idea. Different fishing companies function on different schedules im sure.

We buy fish from the wet market.. there fishers are surely fresh.

madfuck 01-09-2008 02:15 PM

I try and avoid doing Sushi on Sundays and Mondays.

jacked 01-09-2008 02:25 PM

best bet would be to just ask, normally their nice about it, better safe than sorry

After Shock Media 01-09-2008 02:44 PM

Always ask.

Ours gets fresh fish Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

However none of that matters much if its frozen or previously frozen which may be your case.

Any day if its in tin's

woj 01-09-2008 03:34 PM

It's not like they get a shipment every friday or something like that, they probably get a shipment of frozen fish once a month, and just sell that.... so like ASM said, it probably doesn't matter...

Tuesday, no deliveries on Sundays.

V_RocKs 01-09-2008 03:59 PM

Won't make any difference. It is all frozen. The Fresh stuff is just frozen stuff that was thawed out over night.

It depends on the grocery store too. Some do more than others for providing fresh seafood.

I know out here in AZ, it's tough to come by fresh seafood. Usually if I'm looking for some good seafood, I'll hit up AJ's. They have always had the best product, but pricey.

dav3 01-09-2008 06:22 PM

It would vary by store.

Axeman 01-09-2008 06:24 PM

You in Windsor? If so the Sobeys on Tecumseh has a pretty good seafood department. Though not sure what days they actually get the fresh shipments in.

Hollywood Horwitz 01-09-2008 07:02 PM

totally up to the store, most stores have previously frozen fish that they sell as fresh.
