Depends on your plan and country.

I have a BB in Canada, and it costs a small fortune. In the US , I could have unlimited access for under 100.00/month.... :Oh crap

candyflip 01-08-2008 10:01 PM

Mine is included with my Sprint plan. It's usually $39 a month, but part of the SERO plan that we're on.

gnet 01-08-2008 10:24 PM

I too have sprint, but don't have the data plan. I don't use my phone for the internet much. But when I do, I have to pay $0.02/k.

Steve Awesome 01-08-2008 10:32 PM

The data plan is a fixed cost of around on the iPhone has me surfing on that fucker for hours whenever I'm bored and stuck somewhere. $59 is the lowest rate plan. I fucking love it!

woj 01-08-2008 11:10 PM

it's pretty reasonable $30-$40 a month for unlimited use... and you can use it anywhere, don't have to be in a cafe or anything..

GigoloJustin 01-08-2008 11:11 PM

iPhone =) All the plans include it for free.

Some of the phones ( such as my BB ) can be used as a modem to which your laptop is connected.

In the USA, they have some unlimited plans. In Canada, it is a killer ( http://www.telusmobility.com/qc/busi..._100_pda.shtml ) . And if you are roaming in the US, then you better rob a bank ...

zigx 01-08-2008 11:27 PM

costs me nothig... i got the SERO plan from sprint.

V_RocKs 01-08-2008 11:28 PM

If you live in the USA you get cheaper cellular plans but pay much more in taxes.

WiredGuy 01-09-2008 01:16 AM

Your Canadian, so your stuck pretty much with Rogers / Bell / Telus. Just look at the data plans, the unlimited plans are only about 25 - 50 megs, so be careful to read the fine print.

You don't need to be near a wifi that's the whole point. You use the cellular network. 3G is ~ 3Mbps. Egde is like 384kbps. If you're stuck in GPRS it's like dialup.

DutchTeenCash 01-09-2008 08:04 AM

make sure when youre abroad to switch it off: you dont wanna know what US or Canadian carriers charge to use gprs or faster abroad

looked up an email in germany once, 10 miles across the border, costed me 30 us$

d-null 01-09-2008 08:15 AM

there is a difference between wifi and cellular

you can get wifi at hotspots like starbucks or many other places, but you have to be within range of them (usually in the store or directly out front)

cellular you can go anywhere the cell service is, basically, and that is what cell phones, blackberries, and aircards work on

tranza 01-09-2008 08:21 AM

Here in Brazil you can surf unlimited for $40 a month.

What is 3g, Edge and GPRS? Those are all cellular networks?

Yep, but it depends on the model phone you get. I know that the Palm Treos and the new HTC phones sprint has will do the trick.

And from what I can tell, it's faster than the low end DSL available here, but not as speedy as the RoadRunner cable service.

CurrentlySober 01-09-2008 05:23 PM

dunno about surf the net, but its expensive to chase the dragon on a cell phone :2 cents:

pizzaid 01-09-2008 05:25 PM

get you an iphone...:thumbsup

As a Canadian your missing the point. Your fucked. Our providers give you very little usage for the money we pay. And if you dare dock your phone to your laptop to use as a modem you will get a bill for $x,xxx.xx really really quickly. In canada using your phone to surf only is the only way and the speed is ok but you still get tapped out from 25-50 mb of transfer a month. So really its good to check emails, make sure key sites are up and check scores. Not much else.
