What is this "I'm Feeling Lucky" thing on Google?
 

Two buttons for search "Google search" and "I'm feeling lucky"...which seems to go to the 1st ranking site or something...:eek7

just sends you to the first result for your search terms

The "I'm Feeling Lucky?" button takes you directly to the first web page Google returned for your query. You will not see the other search results at all. An "I'm Feeling Lucky" search means you spend less time searching for web pages and more time looking at them.

For example, to find the homepage for Stanford University, simply enter Stanford into the search field and click on the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. Google takes you directly to "www.stanford.edu", the official homepage of Stanford University.

WTF, how does http://www.furnitureporn.com/ get the top listing in google for "porn"?

I know who's metatag to copy now...

I always assumed it was a random site listed by google... They could come up with a better name for that function than "I'm feeling lucky"... Like "best result".

You'd have to be lucky to get the best result .....

porn movies and it brought up porn-movies.net the bunkest movie page of all....... this hurts

Useless bit of trivia: Many, many moons ago, I was annoying someone by posting a particular URL on a particular board. So my URL was banned from the board.

To get around it, started posting the "I'm Feeling Lucky" google URL (using a piece of text unique to the target site".

After about 1 week, the target URL was banned from google. And still is more than 2.5 years later!!

So if you wanna get rid of someone out of google, there's how you do it :)
