TheHun, no longer the biggest?

I compared Alexa rank with a few other MGP's and found at least 5 MGP's with a better alexa rank. Is the hun losing popularity or is the alexa rank nonsense when it comes to these kind of sites?

$hurik 01-08-2008 11:19 AM

Alexa is gonna die soon, you cant rely on its stats anymore

It took you 5 years to learn this? But sadly, you are wrong. Everyone knows Alexa is not 100% accurate but its still a quite reliable tool to approximate popularity of a website, especially in comparing similar websites its even better.

Alexa is dieing fast lately... I monitor it daily for years.

It's showing us as losing losing losing, actually we been gaining gaining gaining.... traffic yesterday highest its been in 3 years... yet alexa show us almost all time low in 2 years lol...

It was useful, lately i show the same pattern across all sites I compare too, and has actually become a really worthless tool in the last 2 months.... And I been using it for years

Vendzilla 01-08-2008 12:32 PM

The guy that founded Alexa just retired, he's a cousin of mine, he just got tired of it I guess, his name is Bruce Gilliat

Viper.X08 01-08-2008 12:38 PM

It looks some webmasters are trying to fool alexa by using some script?

Violetta 01-08-2008 12:46 PM

the hun has been doomed since 96'

joeman1 01-08-2008 01:10 PM

alexa sucks long time

Sick Bastard 01-08-2008 01:11 PM

alexa's great when someone wants to try and over-value or under-value your website's value. other than that it's junk

possibly but doubtful...

How many real surfers install the Alexa Toolbar? Very few..
So the ones who do are typically webmasters... Now these webmasters are from back in the day mind you, today you rarely see it, as you get google or yahoo toolbar, probably dont want many more toolbars installed... So along with that loss they are even starting to lose these old installs as analyzers as peeps upgrade their systems to Vista and so on.. So their analysis value is dropping faster then installs, hence lose lose scenario.

You notice the sites that really kick ass are the ones with webmaster followings, such as AFF, which not only has billions of surfers and links
but webmasters promoting them, so alexa see these links more..
also TGP's that take submits.. as more webmasters are submitting..

Can i get an autograph?

leedsfan 01-08-2008 02:10 PM

thehun and other mgp/tgp sites have been losing big time to tube sites. compare any tube sites with any mgp/tgp sites and you'll see what i mean.

It does nothing to indicate traffic quality. :error

It's all a sleight of hand numbers game. I would prefer a few 100 hits per month from a niche specific TGP, compared to 1000s of hits from some CJ site running on skimmed traffic.:winkwink:

in those traffic ranges alexa is usually pretty accurate..
not saying its perfect
but... you get the idea

teomaxxx 01-08-2008 02:43 PM

you can rather watch exact numbers on sextracker page, see here:
http://ranks.sextracker.com/spn.html...se&pg=0-0.html

The traffic on the biggest TGP sites is going down really fast, some of them are down almost 50% from the tops (WorldSex, AL4a, Sleazydream) of two years ago. If they had only decrease a price of spots too....

Thehun has just increased prices for paid spots a bit (fortunately, around few percent only), despite I was expecting decrease in price :winkwink: , when he lost around 25% of traffic in a 2 years. but its still worth it, only not as good as two years ago...

sniperwolf 01-08-2008 03:25 PM

yay! not a good news, eh? :helpme

No you don't. Alexa is absolutely worthless, especially because it only counts visitors who have a custom Alexa bar (less than 0.01% of all surfers) and interpolates the rest. If you know how you can boost ANY domain to be in the top 50 k Alexa ranks within 3 months, even if it has zero real traffic.

militsa 01-08-2008 06:20 PM

alexa is useless...

You talk shit, there are 10 million toolbar downloads and millions of current users users, where the hell do you pull 0.01% from? There are not enough people in the world let alone surfers for that to be near true.

There may be a bias towards webmaster sites, and its not 100% accurate ofcourse but comparing sites in the same niche there is no better traffic indication without having access to there logs.

tony286 01-08-2008 07:09 PM

compete looks very cool.

Now, where do you pull 10 million toolbar downloads from? Even if this was true it doesn't mean shit. I downloaded it at least 5 times and don't use it any more, neither does anybody I know.
There are whole websites on how to boost Alexa rankings. http://www.doshdosh.com/20-quick-way...ur-alexa-rank/

They normally don't include the easiest way to beam your page into Alexa-Heaven. Put a TGP gallery on your domain every week and submit it to The Hun. Your page is going to have a kick-ass Alexa ranking even though it doesn't make any money.

ztik 01-08-2008 07:21 PM

the huns site sucks

SomeCreep 01-08-2008 07:26 PM

I think Thehun should've sold his site 2 or 3 years ago. Unless he makes some changes (which of course he won't), web 2.0 will slowly eat away at his traffic and his site will depreciate in value as the years go by.

From their company page and yes i never said they had 10 million current users i said 10 million downloads and millions of current users, also from their pages, learn to read and how to use quotes on top.
And who gives a shit them little alexa boosts can get you from 4million to 1million show me one person who has used it to get a good rank? And your thehun example makes no sense, alexa is meant to measure traffic not money so whuh?
