GFY Admin...I got a stupid question. All are welcome to chime in here.
Ok, maybe I'm asking a stupid question, Ive been accused of worse.:helpme
But, why you don't show each poster's IP somewhere in the post? like under their handle, or in the message box? I just think a good bunch of the bullshit fakenick posts and fake drama would be exposed. Except, of course, those smart enough to use a proxy, and even then they'd be exposed as using a proxy, so it would just highlight the fact that they have something to hide. It would also make it a pain in the ass to post under several nicks at the same time if you didn't want to be spotted right away because you would have to keep switching proxies and shit. It's not like you'd be exposing private info or anything...I can grab ip's from any post I make from the image in my sig anyways if I wanted to and match them to the referring Url to see what IP's post in a thread I'm in. I think it might make for a much better board experience... Am I way off in my thinking here? |
because that would make this board have less posts
edit: and less drama |
what they said ^^^

dumb idea ..

giving people the option of being a keyboard cowboy is and has always been the purpose of GFY. But as I am sure people will attest we have been cleaning up the mess lately, and will continue to do so!

GOooooooooooooooooooooooo eric!

Not a terrible idea, but I'd be MUCH happier if they just ridded this place of surfers and turned it back into an industry board. Keyboard cowboy industry people are one thing...keyboard cowboy 15 year olds is a different thing altogether.

The cowboys will still be here, just only the good ones.:2 cents: |
its all about the impressions
|
And whaddya' do with people on a wifi router under the same roof...both on separate GFY accounts thru the same IP?
(i.e. my wife downstairs at her workstation, myself in the production office) Do you axe them? |
u list someones ip address and then people can use the ip address and commit acts against people they don't like.. example ddos or something like that. some people have the knowledge to do so and i'm sure some people have the access to commit such things..

I used to have a geo-targeted image saying "I banged every girl in [your town]" and I have a log of every IP and their referring URL (which easily shows if a particular IP came from the "post a message" page). Not exactly rocket science if you think outside the box. In fact, I started to toy with having an image in my sig listing every poster and their IP address for that thread, just cuz I can...but i'm way to lazy to fuck with it. |

I have been here for 3 years. I noticed 2007 made 2006 look like child's play.. Maybe because of all of the surfers we have now? |

If a female poster is being trolled by some idiot then she can change her nick and lose the idiot. But if you show her IP the troll knows her new nick right away. At least make the troll work. |
PS: The troll would also have to reveal his server if he tries to track with an image.
|
F'n double post!
|
There would be hack attempts, denial of service attacks, and other assorted muck-a-muck out the ASS.
I, for one, would quit posting instantly if some of the fucking script kiddie asshats on here got to see my home IP address plastered all over the site. And I have a feeling the VAST majority of other users would stop posting here too once they started to see the ramifications. :2 cents: The mods can see the IPs, and should start banning multiple accounts. The mods also have the ability to ban asshats should they start choosing to do so. |

He's propsing that any surfer browsing the board can see IPs...No Way! I wouldn't even visit the board in that case. |

Even though I do not agree with you, I can see the psychological effect would be fear. I can intellectualize that anyone can see my IP if they want to, but perhaps for some, it would be scary to have it posted publicly...I could understand that. I'm not changing my opinion, but I can see yours. That's why I brought it up in the first place. To start an open discussion. I do have an open mind that I may be wrong in my opinion that it would be good for the board. BTW, I hate the word "asshat"...that's something we should all agree to ban right here and now :1orglaugh . . . |
tender thighs has spoken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
