so you doubt apple and the Mac huh? I broke my macbook pro (must read)

Ok so on Jan 1st I break my macbook pro... how did I break it you ask...

ok..

so I went a got the 4 gig set for RAM now I could have had the mac genius put it in but I am pretty comp savy so I figure I will give it a go...

works perfect... blazing fast.. now I got the macbook pro 2.4 gig with 4 gig RAM maxed out smoking fast.. so what does my dumbass do?

I say to myself hey I need to take out the 4 gig put back in the 2 gig so I can time some things then put the 4 gig back in and time the same things... right? you know a little test danza style....

well as I am putting the 2 gig back in I deicide to leave the little screwdriver that I DID NOT EVEN NEED AT THAT POINT in between my ring finger and my pinky.. well I am installing the first chip in and it's giving me resistance... im like wtf... well it was not the RAM it was the screwdriver going into the video on the logic board (motherboard) and snap bam the screwdriver went through the chip.. so now I am like FUCK FUCK FUCK...
I get it all back together and try to fire it up and it fires up but no video.. nothing just a black screen and no power to the lcd or the 30in display I got... so now im pissed I broke it...

so I take it to the new mac store here in vegas at town square... http://www.apple.com/retail/townsqua.../20071230.html

I explain to the mac genius what I did and what an idiot I am..

he says.. no prob we will order you a new motherboard.. which they did... this was new years day so I know they could not order it till the next day 1/2/08 so they shipped one which got there on 1/3/08 I go down there in the afternoon on 1/3/08 just to kind of see whats going on and I need my comp back... so I get there and the kid up front is trying his best to deal with me but long story short the board that they orderd was DOA and did not work...

so now im a bit pissed cause they ordered a new one and did not give me the option to overnight... I think they should have.. so now 1/4/08 gets here I call the store in the morning no one has an answer for me... so I wait a few hours I call back... speak with the manager... the Guys name is Dan.. great guy.... he assured me that in all his power I would be back running that afternoon...

well 1 o clock comes around on the 4th of jan (yesterday) I get a call...

Hey (my name) this is Joe the lead tech over at apple.. yeah hey that motherboard did not come today so I got the auth to just open up a new macbookpro and give it to you.... they migrated my HD from my other one into the new macbookpro so it's like I never lost it at all.. amazing

alas... apple does it again...

but now you only got 2gb

install the 4gb blindfolded!

Godsmack 01-05-2008 04:43 PM

congratz! ;-) Apple rocks..

tony286 01-05-2008 04:46 PM

if the 4 gig worked I would of left it alone.

uno 01-05-2008 05:12 PM

My gf broke her screen. Her applecare package wouldn't cover it and its costing her 12-1500. She sent it in weeks ago and its still not back.

Ross 01-05-2008 05:20 PM

That was pretty cool of them. Still don't understand why you took the 4 gig out tho, it worked fine and was fast why did you feel the need to do a "speed test"

Thats just crazy.

I should have

See every now and then I hear about Apple fixing something like this.
But more often then not its like Uno's GF. Apple care wont cover it, and it ends up costing almost as much as the computer cost in the first place.
Even on the Apple site they say it doesnt cover accidental damage.

Dell has accidental damage coverage (cheaper too) and will cover anything, actually havent even heard of people being denied.

If Apple would cover accidental damage officially and not on a "how much weed the guy at the apple store smoked that day" basis I would think about getting a mac that much more, but between the price difference and support, its a pretty tough purchace.

That's awesome that you manage to come off like a total douche not just as the subject of your own stories but as the story teller too.

I dented the corner of the last G4 PB and killed the USB plug to boot after throwing my puter bag over a gate to climb over. Send the PB in for repair 8 weeks later for a HD failure (covered) and got it back with new casing and new USB port.

Similarly, I send my wifes MacBook in for repair after it was pretty much a DOA, while on the telephone, I asked if an older G4 PB, (3yrs out f warranty) could be send in to repair the crappy flaking paint. They picked up both, sent back the repaired macbook and replaced the G4 (5yrs old) with the latest model G4 PB (said mac I damaged throwing over a gate).

My registered macs span back to 1994, so maybe they look after me, I dunno, but I've had a few nice, uncalled-for breaks from Apple

don't buy applecare. I now get the local shop's version - 5 year support, onsite warranty with replacement puter during repair. Accidental damage (thou not the screen). Covered for 20 euro less than applecare.

Hey, I'm just saying that it's amazing you can not only be a douche bag so well, but you're also so damned skilled at communicating said douche baggery to others as well. You are indeed very talented.

Sheesh, some guys can't take a compliment.

You were an idiot, put your screwdriver through your motherboard and then got pissed when they didn't have your motherboard within 2 days during holiday season.

That's where his comment comes from, IMO.

Good for Apple. But you're a tool.

mrthumbs 01-05-2008 06:03 PM
