How much is it worth?
 

A friend of mine, has had her own amatewur website featuring herself for about 3 years, but some weeks ago, she decided to quit working as a nude model, and she closed down her website.

I told her that she should be quick and use the traffic coming in to her domain to something useful (send it to a sponsor or something), but she wasn't really sure what to do with it.

So I told her, that if she wasn't going to use the domain anymore, I could consider buying it from her.

And she wondered how much she should charge for this, since she have no experience in selling sites.

I have never bought a site before, so I don't really know what's usual to pay. Considering, it is only the domain-name that is left (the website itself is deleted), I thought it couldn't be that much worth. The domain name is a 2 word domain, so nothing special there, but her site has as mentioned been online for 3 years, and she have several repeating customers. Today she is still getting 2k-3k of visitors each day, but my guess is those numbers won't last for long.

So actually she is selling a domain with about 3k of visitors per day. My guess was that she wouldn't get anymore than about max. $100 or something for it.

They were guessing more like $1200 for it.

So my question is: How much would YOU think this was worth? (Please be honest, so I can tell her what to expect)

I don't know if she wan't me to write the URL here, but it's for no use, sice all you will see is a blank page, the whole website is deleted...

If their is nothing there anymore it is going to waste big time.

Yes I was thinking the same thing...So actually if she is going to sell it for alot of $$$ she has to try sell it to someone very newbie I think

..Forgot to answer that one, she is still getting 2k-3k visitors a day yes. She has links and banners around on different places, but I guess the visitors will drop more and more.

2-3K a day of visitors is no guide, what's the quality of the visitors?

Your friend was not making a lot of money from it, otherwise it would not be for sale. She would hang on to it. If she did not want to show her pics anymore she would fill it with other content.

From what you have said the domain name is pretty useless to you. So really you are paying for the traffic, and I wouldn't fork out 1200$ for that. Considering half the traffic may not return.

I wouldn't consider buying it for more than maximum $100 (and that's more because she's a good friend of mine).

So should I just tell her that she can't really expect anyone to buy it at all?

Well it is up to you, but I would just put the facts to her. If she thinks she could get $1200 let her try.

Seems to me the site was worth something, as long as she ran it.
It...being her personal amateur site, which means her traffic was targetted for her.

If the site is no longer in place, then the intrinsic value of the site lessens and therefore makes the domain worth whatever the renewal cost is.

If she were to give you the entire site, including the pics and the ability for you to continue running it without interruption, perhaps, then, it might be worth something. But, since she was the 'star' of the site and she's no longer involved, what good is the domain to you, other than having a domain that you like.

all depends on the quality of the traffic. some sites with 1000 hits a day are worth $100,000 plus

Well, she has good quality traffic, excellent for my own Amateur site, she has sent me several signups while her site was online.

She took her site down, because she didn't was to show herself nude anymore, and this is the only site she has been working on, so I don't think she know that much about affiliate programs or building paysites with bought content.

I know her site went very well, she was very disappointed when it was all deleted. But she is thinking that maybe it's the best, because people in her town are starting to recognize her and stuff. That's why she took it all down in a day, she was alittle desperate.

The first thing I told her is: Make use of your traffic now, before it's too late.
