Credit card theft question

My dad calls me someone counterfeited his amex card and was using it NY.They bought stupid shit like burger king and dunkin donuts. He asked was there something he could get to protect himself. I figured lifelock, your thoughts?

They usually start out with small items to make sure it works before hitting the bigger purchases.

He's already protected against fraudulent charges per his contract with AMEX, no? I don't see a reason to pay for something else.

If he's worried about identity theft he can put a lock on his credit reports for free if someone's trying to get more credit using his info.

hmm whats lifelock tony? I was a victim of credit card fraud here recently and because it was the first time my bank didn't even want to reissue a new card.

Amex protected him from the charges and is going to issue him a new card with a new number.

He's covered with Amex, have him call and dispute all charges that were made. They will issue a new card with #. Per federal law anyone who has a credit or debit card is covered against fraudulent charges / purchases.

Lifelock is a waste of money in my opinion. You can do the same on your own for free most of the time.

Put a lock(s) on each of your 3 credit reports and look at each report for any innac. info, etc.

After looking around it seems in GA he can't actually put a "lock" on his reports (though I'm sure Clark Howard is working towards changing this) but he can put a fraud alert on them.

Here's the contact info for the bureaus:

Thanks. Generally everything that happens in the US eventually makes its way here so maybe this will too.
