webair = cheaters

Read this if you have recently upgraded your memory or plan to host dedicated with webair.

My server's memory was upgraded to 2GB some weeks ago.
When checking on the server's memory a week or two after the memory was upgraded, I must find that the server does not use the additional RAM.
I'm stuck with 1GB, because of a memory limit in Debian. Debian's kernel needs to be recompiled before it can use the additional memory.

Now, what makes me mad is that their hosting plans all state that the server's memory can be upgraded to 8GB.
And what upsets me even more is that the support technician just put the memory in, without notifying me that the additional RAM is not going to be used at all. I had to find that out myself.

MAJOR SCREW-UP!

So if you had your server's memory upgraded, or host with webair in general, make sure to check that the additional memory they put into your server can actually be used!

Why are you ordering additional RAM for your server if you don't know how your server works?

ichauch 01-03-2008 04:30 AM

That's their problem. Their hosting plans say they allow the memory to be upgraded to 8GB. I don't need to know "how the server works" in this case.

If their plans say the machines can be upgraded to 8GB then technically, they are right.

All of our new dedicated server plans can be upgraded to at least 8GB RAM (some to 32GB). The issue above is a mix OS/software limitation. I don't see any contact info in your GFY profile so please contact me at your earliest convenience so I can have this resolved for you in a timely manner.

Webair hosts half my income. They are solid. The support is second to none IMHO.

tigermtb 01-03-2008 10:35 AM

So I guess the question is what constitutes a memory upgrade... if the memory is in the machine or if it actually benefits.. haha...

interesting.

Cyber Fucker 01-03-2008 10:39 AM

cheaters? lol that's pretty hard word... man... :) webair is really one of the best and their support rocks and that is not only my opinion as far as I know.. ...just give them a call and they will took care about you... and relax man! :thumbsup

Its nice to hear from admin from Webair, however If the tech who is doing the memory upgrade does not know how to configure the linux/gui box when it comes to upgrading the amount of ram then that person should be fired.

There should be no reason for weeks to pass before someone fixes the mis configured server when such is pointed out...

Later,

Exactly how does any of that make them a cheater?

If you were using Flapjacks 3.2b instead of Debian then you would have avoided this problem.

I think it's webhosts job to advise their customer of any potential problems that may occur. I think that's what you are paying them for.
