The army wants you (sooner or later)

With the talk of War and fighting how many of you younger (age 18 to 25) single US citizens would volunteer to go into the military to leave everything behind and fight for you country.

Just curious!

My best friend volunteered to go to Vietnam, my father in law was in Vietnam and Korea. My best friend didn't come back. My parents and grand-parents have seen enough war also.

Female Webmasters you too can be part of the action, you can volunteer for Medical Units. So don't be shy!

If the draft does come back, because the USA is running out of bodies, would you dodge the draft?

And if you do decide to join up can I have your website, just in case :winkwink:

Last call for alcohol.
Last call for your freedom of speech.
Drink up. Happy hour is now enforced by law.
Don't forget our house special, it's called a Trickie Dickie Screwdriver.
It's got one part Jack Daniels, two parts purple Kool-Aid,
and a jigger of formaldehyde
from the jar with Hitler's brain in it we got in the back storeroom.
Happy trails to you. Happy trails to you.

I am Emperor Ronald Reagan
Born again with fascist cravings
Still, you made me president

Human rights will soon go 'way
I am now your Shah today
Now I command all of you
Now you're going to pray in school
I'll make sure they're Christian too

California Uber alles
Uber alles California

Ku Klux Klan will control you
Still you think it's natural
****** knockin' for the master race
Still you wear the happy face

You closed your eyes, can't happen here
Alexander Haig is near
Vietnam won't come back you say
Join the army or you will pay

California Uber alles
Uber alles California

Yeah, that's it. Just relax.
Have another drink, few more pretzels, little more MSG.
Turn on those Dallas Cowboys on your TV.
Lock your doors. Close your mind.
It's time for the two-minute warning.

Welcome to 1984
Are you ready for the third world war?!?
You too will meet the secret police
They'll draft you and they'll jail your niece

You'll go quitely to boot camp
They'll shoot you dead, make you a man
Don't you worry, it's for a cause
Feeding global corporations' claws

Die on our brand new poison gas
El Salvador or Afghanistan
Making money for President Reagan
And all the friends of President Reagan

California Uber alles
Uber alles California

Man I don't even think the army will take me. I'm on prozac

pr0 09-29-2002 06:23 PM

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't take me into the military. But if they did i'd go & do like tech support at a communications facility. But like front line fighting....im just too big of a target :1orglaugh

I think America has enough soliders already listed to take care of Iraq.
If Bush goes along with the UN plan then other countries will send troops as well. I know England is ready to fight if America asks them to help out.

I have a friend in the National Guard with a wife & two young kids. Earlier this year, he was sent over to Germany for 6 months & now he is posted elsewhere in the States for another year. His family is scared to death that he'll be the first to sent.

As for me...well, the less said the better...

i'd go if they drafted me, of course. hopefully they'd put me in a computer position given my experience but who knows.

Sly_RJ 09-30-2002 04:52 PM

The military would never take me. But yes, I would have no problems going.

theking 09-30-2002 05:10 PM

I too have been there and done that. I served for 12 years, would have made it a career, but I was injured in the first gulf war and was medically discharged in '92.

Would you care to share? Was it a combat injury?

Yes and no. I was hit by a HMMWV (popularly known as a Humvee), during a combat operation, so no purple heart for me. It screwed up my back.

That sucks. Back problems are "for life" too. I have a friend that dropped his bike when he was 18 and he still has problems with his lower back (he's now 28).

Did the VA or the gov't help you after the war (i.e. rehabilitation and such)?

sumphatpimp 09-30-2002 05:46 PM

The hype before the very abbreviated beer fart.

Oh, how we do go on!

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

Get a life, then get a J-O-B !!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. I went through therapy. I was discharged with a 20% disability, that is now a 40% disability, and as I age it will probably become higher, as my back will get progressively worse. Surgery is an option, but one that I will not take at this point, as there is a 60% chance that I would be paralyzed. Normal daily pain I have learned to live with but occasionally, if I move a certain way (which just happened recently), I almost lose the use of my legs and the pain becomes severe. It has always gone away in a few days, but there may come a point that it won't go away.

Thanks for being candid. I wish you good health.

hell no i wouldnt die for my country

Julian Kay 09-30-2002 09:19 PM

I was in the military for 12 years. With the draw down they seemed to only get rid of the good people. Only the shitbag losers that couldn't get a job were staying in my field. Then they had the bright idea to put SATCOM under field artillery. We had gung ho infantry type commanders trying to come into a technical rear echelon field and change everything. The political backstabbing finally got to be too much so I opted to not reenlist again. I think the USA should do like other countries and make a mandatory 2 year military enlistment for everyone unless they are unable. Then they can put them into a civil service job. That might help all the aimless nonskilled teens we have today.

:: Stepping off the soapbox::

Joe Sixpack 09-30-2002 09:25 PM

Death is the end. There is no way I'm dying for any corrupt government. Nor will I sacrifice my life for corporate interests. War is manufactured by the rich and powerful to serve the interests of the rich and powerful. They can go fuck themselves. :321GFY

It's true there are no atheists in foxholes. They are a little too smart for that.

playa 09-30-2002 09:55 PM

i served my time and combat is for the young folks anyways,

BTW, steffie just to let you know that woman can do more than just be in medical jobs,, as matter of fact they can do 90% of the jobs in the military, when i left the ARMY they even had females in the combat units,
