LA Times: Internet Porn is gonna die off in 2008

I know alot of on and offline Adult companies are and have been going out of business. :(

"The success of commercial porn. Last year may have marked the beginning of the end of the Internet's greatest financial success story: hugely profitable pornography. While the mainstream media spent billions of dollars and nearly a decade trying to make a buck off the Internet, the porn industry raked in cash from the moment Al Gore invented the thing. But with the rise of such free sites as YouPorn (the YouTube of the pornography business), the online subscriber model is imploding. DVD sales are plummeting too, and the adult video business is actually laying off workers (no pun intended). YouPorn is now the most-visited adult site in the world, and its traffic is growing at nearly 40% a month."

J-Reel 01-01-2008 06:41 PM

It will become harder to make a buck in internet porn, but it won't be dying off anytime soon.

Adapt and prosper.

FredIsMe 01-01-2008 06:42 PM

YouPorn is the most viewed porn site? Greater than the hun?

Blazed 01-01-2008 06:43 PM

megarotic.com is the most visited adult site not youporn, that guy obviously knows shit if he cant even get his alexa ranks right.

Since when did Al Gore "invent" the internet? Didn't he just "OK" it's general usage?

Fuckin' ignorant writers.

There will be queues outside McDonalds, lots of people filling employment forms.

Nookster 01-01-2008 06:54 PM

That's pretty dumb though. If "Internet porn is gonna die off" where are the tube sites going to get their content? From their ass??

sortie 01-01-2008 06:57 PM

gis ees

Please read the above backwards.

KrisKross 01-01-2008 07:03 PM

I hope the Al Gore thing is a joke.

Yeah and we need more and more mainstream media with an incredible reach reporting about this to give their viewers / readers a tip on free porn - idiots..

d-null 01-01-2008 07:46 PM

from an affiliates perspective, it will cost more to earn less

D Ghost 01-01-2008 07:48 PM

HAhahaha what a whack ass article....

but this:
"the porn industry raked in cash from the moment Al Gore invented the thing." ...was good humor!

Thurbs 01-01-2008 07:48 PM

should end that with the line from Southpark about eating food via shoving it your ass

"and we base this on absolutely nothing"

Very tough to adapt to a market where someone is offering your products for free.. :2 cents:

BlackCrayon 01-01-2008 07:50 PM

its all just a phase really.

Business models are changing for certain, but the Internet - as revolutionary as it is - will not kill the world's oldest profession. And YouPorn will eventually die off as well if this industry does, because without us, they will have no content to steal and lets face it, not everyone is into "person next door" scenes. There are some things that only a porn studio can do. The old business models are going away and once again, there is a chance for porn to rebirth itself.

How is that? If your business model is outdated, sure.

Yeah, only 9-10 people will be earning all the money left and you won't be one of them for sure.

The business model is to invest to create something unique, market it to get it in front of the eyballs of the potential customers and try to sell it to them - that's the "outdated" business model I am talking about..

Drake 01-01-2008 08:07 PM

That article is comedy

Martin 01-01-2008 08:10 PM

Time for all paysites to DRM their shit. That's where these tube sites that post full videos get their stuff. If they had to encode and upload all their own stuff, it just wouldn't work. So nothing is going to change till we take the steps to protect our content. Till then cry as much as you want on gfy, doesn't help anything.

DaddyHalbucks 01-01-2008 08:10 PM

Has YouPorn been sued for copyright infringement?

Eventually the UN is going to take control of the internet and start fucking with countries that don't go after pirates.

I think that's exactly right.

Everybody should jump ship and get the fuck out now.

I'll be nice and stick around to help with the evacuation.

Dumb article. These sites with no business model will collapse just like their dot com brothers did.

GatorB 01-01-2008 09:33 PM

This article is dumb. Ok first of all if paysites go belly up only free porn is available then who in thie right mind is going to produce porn in the first place? No one. If there's no money to be made by the producers then they won't produce. If there is no new porn then all these tube sites will have is loads of porn that will get old quick. And trust me the shelf life of a porn movie isn't very long. Otherwise why would there be thousands of movies shot every year? Why does a porn star have to shoot 300 movies of herself getting fucked in the ass? Isn't is all pretty much the same thing in each one? Technically yes, but to the porn watcher each movie is "new" thus more exciting, even though in reality he's watching the same shit he's seen 299 times before.

My prediction: DATING and INTERACTIVE PORN sites will be the new species that will rise out of the extinction landscape wrought by Rapidshare, Youporn, tube sites, and Megarotic/megaupload. This is already happening and it will accellerate even faster as dating sites starting giving out AUTHORIZED and LEGAL full length canned porn materials. The new paradigm shift will be "canned" ie., prerecorded porn VERSUS CUSTOM aka live/customized porn/adult entertainment. Custom wins. Interactivity wins.

Just my :2 cents::2 cents: More iterations will come in 2008. It will reach its "proven" iteration in 2009. And complete seachange by 2010.

Just a prediction based on current trends, don't get at me.

From everyone's perspective, it is costing more to earn less because the margins are shrinking as the industry matures. That happens in all industries and it does not mean they are dying off.
