Have you guys seen the new spam trick?

It's pretty clever really, because it's using a Google.com URL and 99.99999% of spam filters won't catch it, including Gmail's filter, because Google.com is supposed to be a "safe" URL. :)

The URLs come through like this:

http://www.google.to/search?hl=en&q=...kesize&btnI=I=

This causes google to search for a URL that contains girlslikesize and then tells Google that you're feeling lucky and want the first result, which takes you to the girlslikesize site.

Clever. :disgust

FredIsMe 01-01-2008 11:57 AM

That is DAMN clever. Now watch the almighty Google destory them!

jeffrey 01-01-2008 11:59 AM

Damn, took someone what 8 years to figure that out?

Although I am sure google will now change it so it wont work now.

WiredGuy 01-01-2008 12:04 PM

ha, i'm surprised i've never seen that before.

Fuckin' spammers --if they went legit, a high percentage of them could win Nobel prizes.

ADL Colin 01-01-2008 04:47 PM

That's preposterous! Why would a domain need to be indexed in google to appear as the #1 result for a search in google?

KrisKross 01-01-2008 08:05 PM

What if I registered a domain with "girlslikesize" in the domain and got the first result for it? It wouldn't be all that hard.

Yea, or you could just make the search term your domain name.

Nah, redirect it to the FTC's CAN-SPAM complaint from. :)

That law is worthless, but at least it will get more spams databased and more citations issued...

papill0n 01-01-2008 10:53 PM

It is a shame every clever spammer has turned to the dark side.

wanted 01-01-2008 10:59 PM

It's been around for over a year..

you can do the same for complete URLs too:

gmail is the most pathetic email client with worth spam filter ever. Ever lost business because important messages ended up in your gmail spam folder? Many of potential contractors who could have had business form me didn't cause they use gmail and they thought I wasn't interested in their services having not heard from me... :2 cents:
