Will this shut down torrent sites?

copyright.. not trademark, but, copyright a logo. place that logo on all of your pictures and videos.

If the torrent sites display / host the pics and videos on their sites, they are violating your copyright. They don't care about the trademarks, but considering the berne convention (the legal agreement that recognizes copyrights registered in one country to be valid in another ) was negotiated thru WTO, I think it would have more power.

especially since they are profiting from it.

How far off am I?

The links and descriptions to the files wouldn't include that logo theoretically, so you'd still be having to deal with them.

maybe I was thinking about those sites that have thumbs and offer the whole movies and pic sets.

if they let me download a movie with a copywritten logo watermarked on the video, wouldn't they be allowing the distribution of protected (copywritten) materials.

you can't distribute copywritten materials without prior consent of the copyright holder.

That seems like it could be enforced.

where's minusonebit?

A torrent site doesn't host any copyrighted files. It hosts a .torrrent file.

FredIsMe 01-01-2008 10:06 AM

I doubt you'll shut down torrent sites, especially with a copyright logo

is the movie, that has the watermarked copyright on it, inside the torrent file?

I guess, I should read more about torrents.

Nope.

The torrent tells the client program where the files are on the system of those sharing it. The actual files aren't in the torrent, but hosted by those sharing them.

to bad US just lost the benefit of the berne convention (for sites hosted in Antigua)

Iron Fist 01-01-2008 04:06 PM

Yeah the size of a .torrent file is like 1700 bytes - why people think a .torrent file is the source are bloody crazy!

mrwilson 01-01-2008 04:13 PM

I wouldnt imagine torrent sites are not the worst offenders.

It's the forums that provide exploited pass files and free passwords so people dont need to pay to access the content...

Want to see if your paysite has been exploited?

do this, in google.
