Was this the WORST Christmas in US history??

Is it just me or did it seem like very few people put up lights and stuff around their houses and the cities got slack on decorations etc... and people were just not into it?

I can think of many reasons why people would be preoccupied because I admittedly was; but that could just be me.

I had a great Christmas but your right not many decorations around here.

Living in a new region, I don't have past years to compare it to. But things looked pretty here, I do think the general tone was down. Between the attempted polical correctness pressures and the slow economy, there surely was less spirit going around.

We had an awesome Christmas personally but now that you say it, it does seem that there were a lot less Christmas lights up around town!

Looked normal around my place. I dont go out much, but my neighbors were lit up as much or more than last year. I put up less around the house, mostly just the tree.

In any event the "ban on hohoho!" was a low point. hehehe.

Looked like shit in California.. Lots of peeps losing their house... Or getting to that point and still trying to weather Christmas.

I'm pretty sure that's Christmas in the 1930's sucked. Probably durring the Civil War and WWII as well. 1917 probaly sucked WWI, Spanish flu.

Scott McD 12-28-2007 02:01 PM

The UK almost banned Christmas this year, so we didn't offend any other religions.

Great !

It probably came down to lights versus gas for some folks.
Show the lights all this month and spend next month walking to work!

Thought it has something to do with the jews changing the XMAS Tree into the Holiday Tree, who the fuck wants a holiday tree???

Mutt 12-28-2007 11:57 PM

it sucks - when I grew up every house on the street had outdoor Xmas lights, and some had more elaborate stuff like mechanical animated santas but it seems to be a thing of the past - only two houses on my street had outside Xmas decorations - part of it is ethnic/religious diversity. but even on streets where there are mostly WASP's living there aren't as many decorated houses.

I went shopping on xmas eve at a very popular outlet center in norcal that is always a zoo for weeks straight before xmas and it was dead. Pulled up front row for parking right off the bat, no problem. Was wierd.

Rochard 12-29-2007 12:07 AM

My area was full of lights. Some houses didn't have lights, but the ones that did went overboard and made up for it.

As for the shopping, well, the one thing I hate about Christmas is when I do really need something like batteries I know that going to any store is going to be a hassle. Every time I went to any store it was packed. I also visited the mall to exchange a gift yesterday, and the mall was also packed.

I drove down to Socal and back this week; I have never ever ever ever before in my life seen so much traffic on I5 from San Fran to Socal. Don't tell me people were't traveling for the holidays; I've never had traffic slow down to 30mph on the I5 in my 17 years of going down to Socal on it.

Christmas was fine man.

For me personally, Christmas was great. My wife and I have a child, and I've since disovered that Christmas is no longer about me or what I want. Every year I make a Christmas wish list of what I want, and some years are better than others. However, every year I leave the most expensive gift off the list and buy it myself for Christmas. This year it was a new phone, the Verizon Voyager, which I love. I got a few things I wanted and a few unexpected gifts; No complaints all around.

Horny Dude 12-29-2007 12:44 AM

Christmas was hard in San Diego; Fires, foreclosures, and gas prices. A friend who works at the mall was saying people were tight on their money this year. The economy is not helping.
