I haven't tried the FX7 at all, but the standard mic's audio on the FX1 is terrible, much worse than its DV predecessor the VX2100, which had a great (by stock standards) stereo mic. No matter which of these cameras you decide on, I would invest in a external mic of some kind.

Of those two, I'd definitely buy the Canon.

:)

We shot a b/g/g with Tiffany Preston on the HDRFX1 and it was REALLY nice

I don't know because both of them seem to be very nice. I think I would go with the FX7 if I had to make a choice.

we have the FX1 and it's fine. external mic is required though cause the internal mic picks up the body noises. FX7 is smaller, the CMOS sensor seems to make a better picture. low light qualities of the FX1 might be better, but who films without additional lighting?

i would take the V1U - the professional version of the FX7 - along with the HD recorder. no more capturing tapes - great :)

BuggyG 12-28-2007 10:13 AM

we use the FX1 and have no problems with it

I wouldn't go with iether .. if you need sony then go for Z1U or V1U .. at least you'll get balance audio
