Why not Windows Vista 32-bit?

I tried it on a friends' system and found it quite cool .. I am just wondering why someone should not switch to Vista 32-bit from XP?

I've seen a lot of anti-vista threads ... whats your reason to not switch? And feedback from the ones who have switched and are happy? Or not?

Thanks

From what I have gathered from using it, make sure you have a lot of ram. It helps if you turn of the sidebar stuff, and don't have too many programs that startup when you first startup the computer. I have no problems with it.

DamianJ 12-27-2007 01:47 PM

Because it's shit.

HTH

DamianJ 12-27-2007 01:49 PM

No really, because it uses twice as much RAM as it should, because it adds ridiculous layers of security meaning you have to say 'yes, it's ok to open word' etc, it adds very little aside from eye candy most people would turn off and because lots of devices still don't work for it.

It's probably the worst version of windows since 98ME.

It is probably the biggest mistake MS has made for quite some time.

ememex 12-27-2007 01:50 PM

1) Slow (needs a lot of RAM, 4 GB being the sweet-spot).
2) Breaks some existing programs.
3) It's just eye-candy.
4) Overpriced compared to XP.
5) A lot of incompatible hardware and lack of drivers.

Generally, a useless upgrade. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

CIVMatt 12-27-2007 01:51 PM

It doesnt run shit

Retributi0n 12-27-2007 01:54 PM

I have Vista 32 bit Home Premium.. 4 gigs Ram.. runs fine.

ne0 12-27-2007 01:58 PM

I use it for some time now, it's cool, eye candy, but the driver fuckery is what ruins it for me, lots of crashing with the webcam, the built in mic never worked, and the laptop is fully vista compliant (hp)
Other than that, it's pretty stable, never crashed badly with me.

Dirty F 12-27-2007 02:07 PM

We have this topic every fucking week on gfy. Do a search and you will find out that Vista is just fine and most people are fucking imbeciles.

Any good reason or you just say that to follow the trend?

And maybe, if you had a clue, you would know that you obviously can turn all that shit off.

See what i mean? People say Vista is shit because they dont know how to tweak it. How idiotic is that.

Its one of the best operating systems, if not the best ive used.

BULLSHIT. It cannot even use 4 gigs. Did you even try it or you just like being a sheep?

I have 2 gigs and i never run out. I can open PS, frontpage, play a game and surf gfy in 3 windows and still have ram left.

These Vista threads piss me off so much. There is so much bullshit going around and mostly from people who never tried it or are to stupid to tweak it and then blame Vista for their own stupidities.

That is not a big drawback, can be handled with a little extra RAM .. I guess it should work fine on 4gb, like a couple guys said.

I guess last one is the real issue? Others are not.

Vick, that is what I use is 4 gigs as well.

No, I'm not a sheep. I work in the computer industry and have done beta tests for Microsoft. I know it can't use 4 GB (past 3.2GB to be precise) on the 32-bit system... but it can on the 64-bit.

Compare your performance from Vista to XP and you'll see the difference. I have no problems with Vista other than the fact that everyone I have sold a copy to flat-out despised it. And as a software programmer, it's not fun working with Vista. May I ask why do you prefer it over XP? What is the one feature that really attracts you to such an inferior OS?

justsexxx 12-27-2007 02:42 PM

I am running it on 2GB RAM(processor 6750)
Works smooth. As far as the confirmations, you can turn that OFF in Vista(very easy, just set it to TURN OFF lol)

I open many programs, no problems AT ALL. As far as the driver issue. My HP printer/scanner/fax combination still works great. And it's already 3-4 years old.

YES, some older hardware(webcams/mic's) might not work. But all older 'serious' hardware is still supported. A friends gaming pad which was 5 years old, even still works with the new drivers....

in my case, it's not older hardware...
It's a brand new HP laptop, but I don't really hate on it, it's not microsoft's sole fault, the hardware guys aren't helping with the drivers too.
I prefer using vista than having the blue screen of XP if you plug in too much peripherals and bullshit like that.
(but to be honest I am thinking about getting me a mac :) )

tony286 12-27-2007 02:56 PM

Im building another editing box next week, Im going to buy a copy of xp for it. Dont have time to fuck around with what works and doesnt work.

I run Windows Vista on my tablet and it has been good to me. Mind you, I don't have all the fancy GFX turned on and such.

It is a little slower than vista, but has some good tools and feels nice to use.

Here my sexy tablet...

a) I don't really want to use it, so I don't need to 'learn how to tweak it'.

b) I am really glad you like it, honestly I am. I think you got the hump because jokingly I said it was shit, before I then went on to list why it was shit. I really hope you continue to enjoy using it. I was just pointing out the main flaws with vista. Namely twice (in some cases 4 times) as much ram to use it and that some hardware and software will not run properly on it. Here are some links that show this.

http://blogs.msdn.com/steverowe/arch...ista-need.aspx

http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.ph...atibility_List

But if those two issues don't effect you, then rock on.

c) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...ms&btnG=Search

4.6 million results.

I'm not on my own thinking there are problems with it.

That's really not true.

Just in a two minute search:

AutoCAD doesn't work

Pro Tools doesn't work

Vegas doesn't work properly

QuickBooks doesn't work

(disclaimer - these may have all been fixed now, it was just a quick search on a few pro apps I could think of)

See how I confused software and hardware there? Godamn genius that I am.

I am not even fit to discuss this, clearly. So I will let you all get on with spreading the Vista love.

Peas.

Vista Blows Because:
1. Too Expensive
2. Resource Hog - My old Vaio says 'Vista compliant' with 512MB, yea right.
3. Integrated DRM - Cripples what you can do with your music and videos.
4. NSA Backdoor - http://www.schneier.com/essay-198.html
5. Toolboxes Like Dirty Franck Swear By It - Seriously
