Social Media Tube Script Sucks
 

I was paid to do a Social Media Install and some tweaks as we moved forward so out of this comes a script review to save others a headache.

First of all the script is a mess of smarty templates.... a real nightmare to edit / redesign the ugly template that comes with it... 500000000000000 individual template pages to edit all with code :)

The admin panel is tedious and super huge of individual one click options.... have fun spending a year in there with all the wrong options set taking 7 hours to find what you want to change and get it changed.

The script was very very slow outta the box, can't imagine it once
traffic gets going...

The paths to many tools were hardcoded inside many individual scripts in lots of places... made for a HUGE headache during install, because the paths to these tools are different on every server....

The script had no installation docs that I found, nor a installer. well the installer i think only imported db, didnt do nothing else like check paths etc.
I had to basically tail the error log while uploading and browsing to fix all the bugs and bad paths, find out which directories needed to be writable etc.

Support? OMG what a bunch of jerks these guys are, details to follow.

The script was ordered by my client with no copyright.. client paid an extra $80 for this

The script came with copyright notice in tact, and when I removed the copyright in the template which we had paid to remove, at the bottom of the page in huge 50px font this appeared.

DO NOT REMOVE SOCIAL MEDIA COPYRIGHT.......and so on

It seems this script contacts their server every page call???? and checks if domain has license to remove copyright... Who knows what else is being transferred during this proccess??? Could be Spyware???
This is probably why script is so slow..... waiting for their shit to respond..

Anyhow, I go to their forum right to get support, I have login/pass for the client account, so I logged in right? Well, I go to Script forum actually looking for like installation docs and whatnot, access denied...

Nice, a paying customer needs to request access to forums and wait a day...
Ok, now they have the account name requesting support (its the forum name) , the domain name ordered from, they know the problem is the copyright, (they actually went to the domain and seen this)
and all they have to do is whatever they do on their side to remove the copyright flag which they know client paid for.

So do they go and remove the copyright thing??? No, they say, I see what you want but you have to email support your account information...

Now, this might sound like something realistic, however the same email this information has to be sent to, is the email telling me this.... After 5 more emails of WTF are you kidding me, seems they share this same email account with many people, or in my guess, the aliases of the same kid behind the scene acting like others... lol

I gave them some criticism about what they are doing wrong...
Did they like this? HELL NO, they decided to play games,
and tell my client that I was rude to them, still while not giving the client
what he paid for, the removal of the copyright notice. 3 more days of this has gone by and still they have not removed the copyright.. They chose arrogance route, not smart business route...

Do yourselves a favor..

Yep, iv had the same experience (not with that site) but with the same type of people. Happy to sell you a product but they run it like kids and play games with you. It's not fun.

I just wanted to jump in and say that www.entertainmentscripts.com (plural) is not the same as www.entertainmentscript.com (singular). The first sells Social Media, while the second sells Entertainment Script.

I mention this because I recently purchased a copy of Entertainment Script. It's inexpensive, but not fully finished just yet as new features and tweaks are still being added. I am in no way affiliated with Entertainment Script but I wanted to make sure that people wouldn't assume they're the same (since the programmer is a really nice guy).

that's another story altogether, guy should get his own unique identity and not try and piggy back on someone elses, quite frankly he can probably be sued any second if scripts are similiar...

Wow what a headache man. Looking to buy something this week so i am glad I saw this.

You know, this is going to look bad if someone pulls up a thread of you complaining that somebody copied your site or gallery layout, don't you?

As you can see I registered my domain first! Any such piggybacking was on their part. I had some placeholder pages up at various times. Since I registered first with the intention of releasing my script LONG before they ever did I have absolutely nothing to be afraid of because legally I registered first.

I have sent the thread starter an ICQ and will give him a FREE copy of my software entertainmentscript which is seeing very rapid development but because I'm tacking on features at such a rate there are a decent amount of bugs that pop up because of this. Unlike social Media's people I do everything I can to make people happy and until I finish this next release I'm what like 1/10th the price? Whenever a real bug pops up I have it fixed within 24 hours and bend over backwards to make people happy with my system.

I know I lack alot of the online docs that many people want I've been continually focusing on development before I spend a ton of time writing how to do things because things are constantly changing within my script.

Why dont you sue them? surely you can see how their business practices can affect yours???

oh and another thing, my script is completely unencoded and doesn't even go as far as transmitting a license check at this point. Once development settles down on this script I will be jacking up the price of the unencoded version and offering an encoded version nice and cheap for everybody.

I HATE any software that requires THEIR server to be up and running quickly to keep YOUR site up and running quickly. I have refused to use phpaudit for my licensing system due to it constantly connecting to its server and slowing everything down. It just isn't right for somebody to be slowing my site down like that.

Shit, I disobeyed my own rules.. I promised myself I would never buy/use/recommend service from any domain holder with private registration info.. Obviously, in doing so, you have something to hide.. both these sites hide their info...

It takes too much time and money to prove something like this. The time I'd waste just trying to do something would be more time than it would take to add every feature I even have on my wish list.

There's more than enough contact options floating around... ICQ, AIM, MSN, email, support chat and support tickets. It doesn't take long to figure out some other domains I have (ie iamnotageek.com) which are not whois guarded. I just checked and it looks like my whois records still have my old cell phone number on them that don't work anymore. I will be updating this with my skype (home) number sometime soon but I don't have my godaddy info on the computer where I'm at.

I've had similar experiences with the same people (socialmedia folks I mean) on a different script. If you get the right tech (and there are several involved) and have a friendly conversation then you get everything dealt with, but other wise there is VERY little support and very restricted communications and the support forums are not very helpful and are kept under tight lock and key, which is never a good sign.

oh? sorry, but not surprised to hear..

What pisses me off is, my client is a good guy and professional, so he won't even attempt to get his money back and we already decided to dump they're script and go a different route...

What sucks these rude people get to profit as I doubt they will refund a penny of his money... yet they didnt even give him what he paid for

Checked out the rayzz script. I got the run around on ICQ after ordered, no approval of order even though he said he take care of it for me right away
as I have plane trip early in morning.....

Yet another company scared of fraudulant orders... bullshited while waiting for time to pass... ridiculous.. then you wonder why the orders stop in a week lol

Ya know, I at first thought it was a spam problem, but alas I really now see why its totally clamped down, its like a prison... so noone can complain

did you ever think that a LOT of us aren't really getting that much work done these ~ 7 days around the holidays. I for one was drunk as hell the other night and will be again new years. Hangovers + football games make handling support a little harder :) I for one will admit that these holidays have HURT my ability to handle support. The last few days before Xmas I had 5 different Xmas's between the families and plenty of LAST minute shopping to do.

Before you judge things so quickly you really should consider the time of the year... Although I obviously wasn't listed here (yet?) please be understanding with the time of year...

They are there, they chose to do nothing, now they choose to play run around instead of give refund, asking client for story behind why he should get a refund.. What a joke.

They also say that I make false accusations... What are these false accusations? I give honest details about script, and how they handle support.

Nothing false about it... they have a script that is a huge nuisance to paying customer and they have to deal with that forever... They chose that route.
They chose to be arrogant when they hear things they don't like

This is business 101 and it's obvious this is their first go around in business.

If you havent read this thread, appears many others have same issues with this company... Look at their forum, it's fort knox.. Now you know why, because they get flamed daily... and probably can't give refund because they

Now, if you please before I get back on your case about trying to steal sales hijacking this thread.... Just pay attention when it comes to business..
When money gets put on the floor... all friendship and courtesy coems to an end until I am satisfied.

See this is why you sell your script for $30

So that if in event you dissappear or this thing turns into a joke, or doesnt work or any of 5000 reasons.... You can always say. "What do you expect for $30" or "OH WELL It was only $30"

And I have the perfect reply for that answer.

"I expect it to fully work, be secure, and do as it states. And I don't care what I paid...whether it be $30 or $3000"

THIS IS BUSINESS, not an idea or investment.
An idea investment is starting a site with a $30 script to see where it goes..

And this business particularly sucks because in most cases you have to buy the crap without a chance for a refund and take assholes word its good and can be useful and don't have some sort of hangup

Did you ever wonder WHY scripts dont have free trials or demo's to download and put on their server..

1. Because hackers will download it bypass the encyrption and thus the source code is freely available.

Which contradicts why they encrypt it to paying customers....
Obviously they know anyone can get around the encyrption..
SO WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING PAYING CUSTOMERS..

LOL encryption is a very bad joke which is why I don't use it...

I am also NOT the kind of guy that charges for something just to bail out. I owned/ran at the time what was the best Arcade script on the market. I am the guy who developed GameScript for more than a year before I sold it so that I could pay off a ton of bills and have some fun for a while. I asked a few dozen customers if I should just stop development and take some time off (had support staff in place) or sell and all but a couple told me to just sell. For a while the new owner brought in a good amount of new things but that script has basically died off. I sold that over a year and a half ago and the arcade market has gone to hell.

I will fully support my script and would not even consider selling this script unless I had a good support team in place and sold to a person I believed would continue development. That simply will not be happening until I've reached a point where I am simply out of ideas to add to this script and a new perspective is needed. I have an insanely large list of features I plan on adding and I sift through it during EVERY update to try to include anything I can quickly put in.

Hell I'll even ICQ you in a while when I fix up my latest dev build a little more for you to have a free trial. This build will be somewhere between 1.4.1 and 1.5 because 1.5 adds too many nice things to send you 1.4.1 now LOL
