How the hell does it work, is it like link popularity? Can I check it with a link popularity tool?

you need to have the words "free sex" on your page at least 1200 times.

It is based on link popularity but not solely this. You also need quality links, like from Yahoo or DMOZ, these quality links will boost your ranking by 2-3 PR. You can check your PR by downloading the Google search bar and hitting your site with it.

I tried that a couple years ago with a domain and it got blacklisted, I made the <H1> text the same color as the background and put it back a layer with Z-index

This guy speaks the truth.. those quality links are very important if not much more important than high link popularity alone.
