Big Brother is finally here. FBI Prepares Vast Database Of Biometrics

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...122102544.html

Quote:

CLARKSBURG, W. Va. -- The FBI is embarking on a $1 billion effort to build the world's largest computer database of peoples' physical characteristics, a project that would give the government unprecedented abilities to identify individuals in the United States and abroad.

Digital images of faces, fingerprints and palm patterns are already flowing into FBI systems in a climate-controlled, secure basement here. Next month, the FBI intends to award a 10-year contract that would significantly expand the amount and kinds of biometric information it receives. And in the coming years, law enforcement authorities around the world will be able to rely on iris patterns, face-shape data, scars and perhaps even the unique ways people walk and talk, to solve crimes and identify criminals and terrorists. The FBI will also retain, upon request by employers, the fingerprints of employees who have undergone criminal background checks so the employers can be notified if employees have brushes with the law.

"Bigger. Faster. Better. That's the bottom line," said Thomas E. Bush III, assistant director of the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services Division, which operates the database from its headquarters in the Appalachian foothills.

The increasing use of biometrics for identification is raising questions about the ability of Americans to avoid unwanted scrutiny. It is drawing criticism from those who worry that people's bodies will become de facto national identification cards. Critics say that such government initiatives should not proceed without proof that the technology really can pick a criminal out of a crowd.

The use of biometric data is increasing throughout the government. For the past two years, the Defense Department has been storing in a database images of fingerprints, irises and faces of more than 1.5 million Iraqi and Afghan detainees, Iraqi citizens and foreigners who need access to U.S. military bases. The Pentagon also collects DNA samples from some Iraqi detainees, which are stored separately.

Wasn't this pioneered in England? The ever-present sidewalk video cams matching faces in their databases.

west edmonton mall's latest security system implements the use of face recognition sofware. it also tracks the physical movement of each individual moving throughout the mall. if the computer determines that your movement patterns are suspicious it will log data regarding you size, location and movements throughout the mall, as well asa digital image of your face to compare to it's database of other suspicious suspects. this system has been in place for at least a couple years now.

it's only a matter of time before this type of thing becomes widespread...

Unfortunately the sheep are too comfortable to even do something as simple as change where they shop. Don't have to boycott, just have to change a few habits.

Once they get you "law abiding" they have you by the nuts, and people don't even know it until the SQUEEZE.

Most unfortunately will think this is a good thing because they want to be protected. If the founding fathers could see how chicken shit we are as a nation and are so willing to give up liberties and freedom because we might get hurt. They would never stop throwing up.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 12-22-2007 04:20 PM

The CCTV operators in the UK follow cute girls down the street, focusing into windows watching people having sex, there is a whole underground CCTV network of movies shared between the CCTV operators. Crime hasn't gone down in the UK since the cameras went in, if anything crime probably went up since banning guns, knives, and recently samurai swords.

I am looking forward to the movie Look as it should open sheeple eyes like Sicko did with health insurance companies.

i thought the us had the same policy as canada on magic mushrooms. growing them is not illegal, nor is possessing wet mushrooms. however the moment you go about preparing them for consumption it is. could be wrong, thats just what i've been told..

Considering that many US government agencies are still using computers from the 70's and 80's and are typically known for being bogged down in bureaucracy. I highly doubt hey will achieve their goal in 10 years. Think of it like dog years. If the government says 10 years it's probably more like 30. Show me one thing the government has ever done on time?

I've actually heard the opposite. Supposedly the government/military is usually around 40 years ahead of the public technologically. Ben Rich, who was the director of Lockheed Martin's SkunkWorks said this shortly before he died:

"We already have the means to travel among the stars, but these technologies are locked up in black projects and it would take an act of God to ever get them out to benefit humanity?.. anything you can imagine we already know how to do.? - Ben Rich

Of course crime wouldnt go down the point is being able to catch the criminals, which the rate here is one of the best in the world.

Any info on this underground network? Wouldnt mind a lil peak :thumbsup
