Greatest Christmas Gift You Ever Received?

and don't try to sneak in some maudlin crap about the birth of a child or somebody recovering from an illness - I mean an actual gift

The one that made me the happiest was a 25 horsepower Evinrude engine for my small boat when I was 15. I had so much fun in that thing. :)

For some reason the gift that comes to mind and that is the most memorable is the Atari 2600 that I got when I was 10 or 11. I remember all I asked for that year was the Atari 2600 but since it was brand new it had a price tag of $500 or something like that, which at that time was a fair bit of cash. It wasn't really something that my parents could afford at that time.

We were having my grandparents and some family friends over for dinner. I just remember my grandparents coming over early in the afternoon and when they arrived my grandfather asked me if I had gotten what I was asking for, (knowing the Atari was the only thing I that I really wanted). When I told him that I didn't get it he said "well I guess we should go get your x-mas present then" and we headed down to London Drugs, that happened to be open on Christmas day having some big sale, and he bought me the Atari.

I played the hell out of that thing over the years. At the time that was the state of the art gaming system...lol. I remember it came with a game called "Combat" which was a series of games with tanks/planes, etc all pixelated and monotone. Looking back now I can't imagine playing it for even 5 min. The quality of the gaming systems sure have come a long way over the years.

From someone else or as a gift to myself?

from somebody else.

Honestly its very hard to say... As a kid I always got what I wanted for xmas from my parents. Wasn't spoiled or anything, just didn't ask for tons and tons like most kids did so I got what I wanted mainly...

Different things at different stages of life are awesome. One thing that sticks out is my first ever PC I guess... Cost my mum $3500 at that time and that was a lot of money. It was a gift for my younger brother and I to share tho but still pretty cool.
