What Sony VAIO you recommend as Gift?

I want to gift one Sony VAIO to someone, he is quite techy. Please recommend me what model/series I should pick?

Here is what it must have:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz or above
2 GB RAM or above
15.4", no more no less.
120GB HDD or more.

Must be Sony VAIO, other can be considered if exceptionally beautiful.

Budget is ~$1500

Currently I am looking at this one.. FZ250E/B .. not sure how it looks like..

What do you recommend?

Thanks

NONE.

THEY ALL SUCK ASS!

Seriously....I have one and it's about to become a boat anchor.

My first Vaio was bought in April and went tits up within 3 or so months. It took me forever to get any kind of service out of Sony or Best Buy and I ever have a $400.00 extended warranty on the piece of shit.

Finally I got it replaced in late July or early August with the new Vaio but it's crap too.

I will NEVER buy another Sony computer again. When this one breaks, I'll buy another Dell.

Ive heard bad things about Sony... they should stick with TVs and shit... computers is something best left to Dell :)

Sony... bleh.

I swore myself off Sony products a long time ago... and I consider my current status better for it.

If you're set on a Vaio - good luck with that.

I had bad experience with my Sony Vaio
3 yrs ago i bought the tiniest laptop the 10inch
ones back then was rare paid about 4k for it at the
sony store with the extra 1yr warranty . Shit hit
the fan a month before with it and they didn't honour it.
So the thing is just collecting dust in a corner of a room now.
There were tons of problems with it .
I won't go back to Sony for notebooks

Vick! 12-20-2007 05:20 PM

Damn .. a lot of negative feedback about Sony notebooks :(

What else you guys recommend with these specs?

Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz or above
2 GB RAM or above
15.4", no more no less.
120GB HDD or more.

Must be great in looks .. classy!

D 12-20-2007 05:24 PM

Any laptop manufacturer would carry products with those specs.

Lots of threads in the last couple months here debating different notebook manufacturers - just do a search.

My personal faves: For durability, Lenovo Thinkpads. Bang for your buck, HP.

I am currently using HP Pavilion, its good. This time I am looking more into classy looks than durability. What manufacturer make most good looking notebooks?

The screen on my Vaio goes all black on occasion, everything still runs in the background though. The only way to get the visuals back is a hard reboot. The laptop was free though, so I can't really complain. If I had paid for it though, I'd be pissed.

No offense meant but why would you buy a computer based on the looks?

Would you buy a Lambo if it came with a VW bug motor and was known for breaking down on a regular basis?

Performance is EVERYTHING when it comes to computers.

I've owned a few Toshiba's, a Dell, this Vaio, and have friends who own HP, Compaq, and others. I've also worked for Dell and as I mentioned, my next laptop will be another Dell.

I do not use laptop as desktop replacement, so performance doesn't matter a lot. And also sepcs I mentioned above are pretty good for reliable performance.

Rest is durability, I do not seek it either .. if a classy/stylish laptop can works for 1 year .. its all good for me.

I don't know if I am right on choosing a gift purely on the basis of my take about laptops. :error I am following his requirements though ..

they spend an extra 100 for a pink cover with hello kitty on it instead of buying a bit more then 256 ram

My laptop is not a desktop replacement either....But this is still a 2k+ machine and if it is this big of a piece of shit....I can only imagine what a 1k or less machine would be like.

Follow his requirements......And use them to buy a Dell. :2 cents:

You have plenty of Sony Vaio notebooks models here.

Linguist 12-20-2007 10:55 PM

Fuck Vaio, get a macbook.

My Vaio went tits up within a few months and they won't do shit about it.

Couldn't be happier with a macbook, miles better and a LOT more durable.

Linguist 12-20-2007 11:00 PM

It makes for a good coffee-holder though. The top of the screen is very slick and metallic-like, I have it folded near by bed and that's all I ever use that piece of crap for.

Don't get a Vaio. Seriously.

I'd get a Dell before giving another dollar to Sony for their overpriced POS laptops.

jakethedog 12-20-2007 11:04 PM

macbook ... no brainer

Entry level Macbook Pro fits those requirements to the tee, exactly like you described ;)
