What is the size of the screw on tripods that mounts to the bottom of cameras

Google didn't show good results. Anyone know the width of this screw and maybe even the length of how much of it goes into most cameras? Making a custom tripod type bracket for a motorbike. If these already exist anyone have any links?

why don't you just buy a removable plate for a tripod and use that?

Thats also a good idea. I was actually in the market for a nice tripod and plate, what is the dimension of the screw that goes into the plate? I noticed it's a bit bigger than the one going into the camera.

So would the one going into the camera be 1/4" and the one going into the tripod plate 3/8"?
