quick iphone question
 

If i have one but haven't taken it out of the box, when i do, does it have any functionality? or is it going to force me to signup on the 2 year contract right away? can i browse the phone atleast?

I thought the iPhone was supposed to be identical to an iPod Touch but with phone capabilities. So, shouldn't you be able to use all the features that the iPod Touch has?

You have to activate or "unlock" the phone first ;)

damn i just want to play with it, it was a gift. I have a Tmobile Dash which i love, so i wanted to see what i might like better.

there are links and instructions everywhere .. unlock it and your off to the races ..

so take it back to teh apple store and get the iPod Touch, it's the same exact thing, just no phone.

I played with a couple of iphones buddies have had. Pretty cool the touch screen and stuff as well as browsing sites, zooming in on stuff, vert to horiz switching - nice web browser. Great watching videos on and showing off to people. However, the coolness lasted for a bit and then I missed a faster internet connection and not actually knowing which keys I tried touching.

That's just me though, and I'm not a designer, so "Oh that's nifty" works only a couple of times.

You can activate it yourself.. just search google on how to do it. Not hard stuff. then just go to jailbreakme.com and you can unlock your iphone and use any sim card in it.

You can also go through the activation process and just enter in all 9's for your social security number. That will set it up so your on pre pay.

dood do what I did... get the go phone plan... then you only pay monthly recurring like a porno site... only cheapest I could find was like 60 bucks a month recurring..... that includes unlimited internet and like barley any min ... but I can just cancel when I want....

you can unlock it but this is only if your iphone is made before week 49
to check
turn your iphone box over, and look for the serial number.
The 4th and 5th # = the week
ie serial no. 7TX382R = made in week 38
