aico 12-16-2007 01:39 PM

Facebook is becoming more and more unpopular. I can't even count how many friends of mine have decided to say fuck facbeook and close their accounts. Turned into another myspace so slowly that nobody really noticed.

The suit alleges Facebook has suffered damages in "excess of $5,000" and has been "irreparably harmed."
I wonder how much they are suing for and how they were "irreparably harmed."

The article said:
The amended complaint was filed last Wednesday after Facebook was granted court orders in Canada forcing Internet service providers Rogers Communications and Look Communications to divulge subscriber information.

Seriously, if you are going to do something illegal, why would you use an IP address that can be traced back to you?

TeenCat 12-16-2007 01:49 PM

There's a reason why you rarely hear about smart criminals. Only the dumb ones get caught.

The smartest ones of all are 100% legit --they aren't criminals.

Matt 26z 12-16-2007 02:20 PM

I'm sure it was just a rogue employee or that their own servers were hacked. "I met them in Vegas and..."

heh that shit may work in this industry but when you're in a courtroom against a team of the best lawyers Facebook can find you better have somethinng better up your sleeve.

interested to see if criminal charges follow this.

SmokeyTheBear 12-16-2007 02:41 PM

not very slick :winkwink:

TheSenator 12-16-2007 02:45 PM

I see no reason why Slickcash would do this with so much to lose. How desperate do you have to be to hack Facebook?
Especially hacking through your own computers unless they have VNC installed on their computers.

LadyMischief 12-16-2007 06:21 PM

I'm guessing that any company that suffers a hacking of their client's personal information can certainly claim irreparable harm. Such a hacking does tend to put into a lot people's minds a certain level of doubt as to that company's security and just how secure one's personal data is.

Of course any data anyone enters online is somewhat "at risk", but people don't want to actually see it BE at risk, like it is in this case.

I don't know if the harm is "irreparable" here, but from a legal standpoint one can certainly claim it. If I owned Facebook I'd probably do the same thing.

You can't actually close a facebook account, they just disable it and keep your data since they are very crafty data miners.

»Rob Content« 12-16-2007 10:54 PM

And people wonder why the Gov wants to shut down our industry. We can't just make an honest buck, we need to scam to get ahead

Actual damages could be one dollar, punitive damages can be millions.

lots of PR for slickcash! They've been really quiet lately. Wonder where they've been? haven't seen any of Jordan's "i met a famous person" thread in a while.
