I recently made the switch to the GOM player for all my shit really. Have yet to find something it will not play right. Was a pain for awhile when I would get assorted raw AVI files and other shit would not play them.

I recommend VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ if you prefer a OS with backdoors which spies on you (=windows variant).

I use http://kaffeine.sourceforge.net/ myself (Only for variants of the GNU operating system).

I have yet find find a media file which can't be played in both these players.
