Google Site May Challenge Wikipedia

Google is testing an Internet site for sharing knowledge about any subject under the sun, one that could eventually compete with Wikipedia.

Google's "knol" project started earlier this week.

cool...:thumbsup

teksonline 12-14-2007 04:22 PM

everyone prepare for search term placement -1

OzMan 12-14-2007 04:47 PM

good timing!

The First Knol, the Angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
Knol, Knol, Knol, Knol
Born is the King of Israel!

wikipedia has already branded itself way beyond anything google will make from now on..

if google would of done this right when wikipedia was first being branded it might of caught on but wikipedia is a household name now just like google is

fuckingfuck 12-14-2007 04:59 PM

I don't know. At one time we probably said the exact same thing about Lycos and Alta Vista.

And considering Google can give its own project premium placements... I wouldn't count them out.

Highly ranked entries will receive preferred page ranking from Google, although the company claims it will not be involved with the editing of entries.
:thumbsup ...and yet people still ask me "Why do you need all those Google accounts?"

SamMingle 12-14-2007 05:09 PM

I think this will be very successful for Google. They are a household name beyond wikipedia(i like wikipedia also) but google will catch up and improve on wikipedia- watch!!

Yeap.
Results would look something like that
1. youtube
2. knol
3. some other google garbidge
4. some other google garbidge
5. some other google garbidge
6. wiki
7. Last SEO guy standing

You people do realize that Google is not trying to compete with wikipedia, right? The product is totally different.

And think about it for a second, if Knol starts ranking good in Google, how exactly is it a bad thing for webmasters?

Think about that one.

Luscious Media 12-20-2007 10:46 AM
