How did we allow Google to gobble up 3/4 of the search market?

6 times the traffic of Yahoo.

Yahoo and MSN executives should all be castrated for letting this happen. Assholes.

Now we have to put up with a virtually monopolistic situation. :disgust

Scootermuze 12-13-2007 05:12 PM

Probably due to initial word of mouth.. Like ICQ.. which became the standard.. and still is for the most part...

Then those crazy college boys did all the right things apparently...

PornMogul 12-13-2007 05:46 PM

I only use google because its the best. Yahoo is going DOWN

scottybuzz 12-13-2007 05:49 PM

because they provide the user with what they want better than anyone else.

Xrated J 12-13-2007 05:50 PM

i always thought google was better than yahoo

Socks 12-13-2007 05:50 PM

it's just so easy to type...

needlive 12-13-2007 05:50 PM

Google is pretty nice, yep.

After Shock Media 12-13-2007 05:53 PM

We, say what?

PS it is far from a monopoly. Maybe want to research that phrase a tiny bit.

uno 12-13-2007 05:54 PM

who the hell uses ask.com or msn?

I would say oligopoly, do you agree?

VicD 12-13-2007 05:57 PM

by using Google...

CunningStunt 12-13-2007 06:15 PM

It's monopolistic, not a monopoly. Geez, the pedants in here who want to split hairs over the slightest thing. I have a degree in economics and some board image spammer is trying to correct me. LMFAO.

Actually it was a combination of Gates lack of vision in the internet/search game early on, and Yahoo getting too comfortable once they became more of a portal and bloated with corporate partnerships.

By the time they woke the fuck up. Google was in place, and rolling.

:2 cents:

Evil E 12-13-2007 07:53 PM

Accurate Search Results.. that's the only reason why I used and still use google.

D 12-13-2007 07:58 PM

Google provides the best service.

D Ghost 12-13-2007 07:59 PM

They provide a user experience far better than any other engine.

Google basically came out of the gate after Yahoo. They simplified search, provided better results, then built it back up again by reinventing what it means to search - aka "Google It."

What I find fascinating is their ability to reach the level they're at without advertising. Where Yahoo and MSN spent shitloads of money on television campaigns, etc.

Also... you may be interested to know

Even though Google is the market leader in terms of overall search volume, for many specific queries, Yahoo and MSN hold a greater market share.

IllTestYourGirls 12-13-2007 08:17 PM

they targeted the webmasters and not the web surfer. thats my two cents

AmeliaG 12-13-2007 08:23 PM

I used to feel like Google gave the best user experience, but they are pretty useless for finding almost anything these days. MSN Live seems to be more accurate so far but has fewer results. None of Google's total gibberish results though.

I can find virtually anything on google. Maybe you should learn to choose your keywords. :2 cents:

Yes I would.

StuartD 12-13-2007 09:16 PM

It only upsets you because you weren't the one that started Google.
