Is Vista really that fucking horrible?

Just got a new machine with Vista on it.

Everything is easy to find. Connecting to the network took 5 seconds. Aero interface runs flawlessly.

I am the king of operating system procrastination.. this is the *first* time since WINDOWS 3.1 that I have been running Microsoft's latest operating system.

So whats all the fuss about?

czarina 12-13-2007 11:37 AM

I don't like. at all.

Sosa 12-13-2007 11:38 AM

A lot of times it is the machine that pisses people off rather then Vista. You can't run Vista that great on 1-2 gigs of ram once you add in other applications etc.

Viper.X08 12-13-2007 11:38 AM

does Vista lots of problem on Vista? hmmn, thinking twice to buy that SW.

Damian_Maxcash 12-13-2007 11:39 AM

I found it works fine on a machine that comes with it installed - Its when you try and install it yourself that it turns to crap for some reason.

Dirty F 12-13-2007 11:43 AM

Do a search. We have this topic every single week...twice.

It basically comes down to this:

Most people bash Vista because its cool to do. They havent even tried it out. Then you have a few people who tried it but have no clue how to tweak. Then there is this small group, of which im part of, who installed, tweaked it and now have a perfect OS. An OS which is very stable, works fast and on top of that looks very nice.

sysk 12-13-2007 11:49 AM

I've been using Vista for a couple of weeks and I wouldn't say it's better or worse than XP, but it looks better.

candyflip 12-13-2007 11:49 AM

My girlfriend installs it multiple times a week on multiple laptops and then starts the process over...depending on the training classes they are running that week. She has yet to have any issues or complaints.

I'd go with her opinion or advice before I went with any other advice found on the web, especially GFY.

UniqueD 12-13-2007 11:55 AM

i'm using it on multiple machines with varying hardware specs, i have no complaints at all.

pornguy 12-13-2007 11:57 AM

I have it and have no problems with it. Seems to fun fine.

Not at all ... we run two Vista Ultimate systems here and both have dual core with 2gb ram and they both run blisteringly fast with lots of apps open. Not a problem :)

kesey 12-13-2007 12:02 PM

The main gripes I've heard about VISTA are from:

IT people because the security is a nuisance, at first, nothing insurmountable.

Developers, because you have to code differently. It's no so easy to write to the registry or to Program Files, so you have to write to the user temporary files.

Gamers because it initially presented some problems with their high end games.

But, yeah, buy four Gigs of RAM if you're a power user.

teg0 12-13-2007 12:04 PM

yes, yes it is

Cyndalie 12-13-2007 12:17 PM

With enough RAM and MHz it's not that bad.

EvilFubAr 12-13-2007 12:24 PM

Its about the same, I dont have any issues that I cant fix on my own right away. Havent had to tweak much after the 1st day.

xcitecash 12-13-2007 12:25 PM

just cant afford the downtime, so why take the risk

Yes, it is such a resource hog and there is really no point in upgrading to vista other than DX10. Microsoft will try to force everyone to upgrade for obvious motives (money) and no more.

MarkMan 12-13-2007 12:28 PM

I personally like my Mac OS-x more then my Vista .. but hay for each his own

What did you do to tweak it? Any advice to enhance the overall performance? My gf has vista on her notebook and it's kinda slow, even with 2 gigs of ram.

Franck will you shoot me a message with how to tweak it then? I'm at whits end with this OS and It came preinstalled on my Dell.

Thanks,
Rinaldo

DaddyHalbucks 12-13-2007 12:37 PM

I hear Vista is slow, even with gobs of RAM, but I don't know for sure, since I run XP. Maybe I was misinformed.

For me, there is no incentive to risk it. I just ordered XP on my new box.

There is one thing that is for certain though: Microsoft sucks donkey balls and rips off its customers. Vista is waaaaay overpriced as a result of Microsoft's illegal monopoly.

Bill Gates --the world's most charitable individual? Hog wash. He is the world's biggest white collar criminal. Fuck him.

tASSy 12-13-2007 12:37 PM

it definitely seems like a memory hog, and it crashed and rebooted windows, BSOD and all within my first week of having it. i'm typing this on my powerbook. :P

wanted 12-13-2007 12:40 PM

suck hard.

Elli 12-13-2007 12:47 PM

I like Vista's interface, but it makes being an "advanced" user trickier. I would use it if it worked more reliably with Vegas and whatnot.

The real question:

Leopard vs. Vista! Any thoughts on that? (I have a friend who is dual-booting Leopard via a Linux emulator and he's completely sold on it.)

WWC-Pajio 12-13-2007 12:50 PM

thought it's going to be good but not happy with it at all.. fucked up

bingo, what filthy franck said..

i didnt use vista because i heard so much bad shit about it, but i ponyed up and installed it on my machine and its worked great, hasnt crashed ANY in 8 months of running it!

Jimmy Rock 12-13-2007 01:01 PM

I had a completly different experience than you...

GTS Mark 12-13-2007 01:04 PM

It's fucking terrible i have had it for months, in the process of removing it and going back to XP.

DH

drjones 12-13-2007 01:06 PM

I havnt had any issues with it, but all I do with it is test sites in IE, and play a couple games. Rest of my time is in OSX or linux.

Aero is kinda dumb looking IMHO.

People werent kidding when they bitch about the crazy amount of dialogs that pop up asking for permission to perform every little action though. I would probably get annoyed if I used Vista as my primary os.

Did you ban all Vista users?

DirtyDanza 12-13-2007 01:10 PM

why waste your time with windows anymore.... I was a windows user.. then I got smart and realized that MAC is the only way to go.. I am on a 2.4 core 2 duo macbook pro right now blazing fast.. took the place of 4 top dollar PC's icq me and ill tell you how..... the facts are this... do searches on here and on any website for that matter and you always see PC users complaing wondering how to tweak settings.. the fuck tweak settings? so many complaints... and then search mac... none...

I have to admit that I did so. Shame on me.

I bought a notebook last week which came with Vista and itīs really like Frank said. Running without problems, fast and itīs easy to use if you are familiar with XP. Some features have changed a little bit, but youīll find everything without reading a manual.

The only problem is that there is some software which doesnīt work with Vista and updates are not available for every software at this time, but thatīs not a disadvantage of Vista.

When I bought the notebook I first wanted to downgrade to XP, but after giving Vista a try I changed my mind.

Well, obviously thats part of the tweaking i was talking about. Ofcourse you can remove that shit.

Because people just have to bitch about something. Haters saying that XP is better are the same ones that said XP sucked 6 years ago. Of course Linux geeks think everyone is a computer nerd and Mactards want more cult members to assuage their inferriority complex they outwardly show as a superiority front.

Xrated J 12-13-2007 01:21 PM

ive never had any problems with it

WebairGerard 12-13-2007 01:36 PM

pre installed on nice setup it's ok. would stay clear of upgrading from xp to it.

Used Vista before but I got back using XP!:)

Dollarmansteve 12-13-2007 02:37 PM

works perfectly fine, I use a vista machine as my non-work computer / media centre.. have it networked ot my xbox360.

running on a amd athlon 64 X2 dual core w/ 2 gigs ram.

warlock5 12-13-2007 02:48 PM

Good to hear I'm not crazy. But I still have Win2k running on my primary workstation.
