So what puts YOU in the Christmas spirit?

Lights?
Snow?
Tunes?
Carollers?
trees?
eggnog?

...presents?

Or is it more like seeing it through your kids eyes that does it for you?

Some years I have trouble getting into the spirit of it all, especially with all the commercial bullshit that comes with it. There are times when I could honestly be okay with Christmas coming every 2 years instead of every year. It's become a bit repetitive for me I guess.

The only thing that really preserves the spirit for me is the giving. Nothing like giving someone you care about a present and watching their face light up when they open it. Oh, and I made a cash donation to the local homeless mission the other day (the Siloam mission), felt pretty good to do that.

What about you?

BV 12-13-2007 08:33 AM

Spudman 12-13-2007 08:34 AM

This year, it's a sense of family.
It's really hard to explain but I've always just felt that my wife and I were parents, we had a kid. But that was it. We just had a kid.

Now that I have my second boy here, even though he's only 5 days old, I really feel like we have a solid family now. It's complete.

And as such, having my very own honest to goodness family for the holidays, it really brings a whole new meaning and feeling that I have never felt before.

WarChild 12-13-2007 09:58 AM

I fucking hate Christmas.

Damian_Maxcash 12-13-2007 10:00 AM

Lots of the other kind of spirits usually.....

Most of my family and myself have worked one or another in Hospitals - we never managed to have great family christmases so I am not really into it.

I know what you mean. I worked in a hospital for 15 years, and can't count how many Christmases I spent working the nightshift, evenings, double shifts etc. Lots.

I think Stu's on the right track, as you get older family is key.

I'm having issues with the whole Christmas thing this year. Usually as soon as the first Christmas movie hits the tv I'm all over it though. Decorating the house, shopping, putting up the tree and occasionally even baking. So far I haven't even gotten the decorations out of the closet. Sounds like some thing to put on the to do list for this weekend.

Violetta 12-13-2007 03:53 PM

^^ That right girl is Linni Meister right?

Anyway, christmas music/songs makes me in the right mood now before christmas!

That's the one at the airport right?

Yeah that one was good.

I like "Trading Places", that flick always has a shot of getting me at least a little in the Christmas spirit.

I've been putting eggnog in my coffee all week. It's the little things that add up.
