Best rap album so far this year..

to me it has to be this Nas Lost Tapes album. For all of you rap fans Nas spits some of the realest and sickest lines of the year. For this album to be a collection of unlrealeased stuff its definitely a concept album.IF this doesnt get at least 4 mics on the source im gonna burn that maagazine down.

1) Nas-Lost Tapes
2) Nappy Roots-Watermelon,Chicken and grits
3) Pastor Troy- Universal Soldier

I don't like that shit man.. when it comes to rap I only jam on the P-Funk, or P-Funk influenced Oakland beats.

Thank you for not putting Ja Rule, Pdiddy, Nelly, or Eminem on that list.

Haven't heard the Lost Tapes...but I love The Message and Affirmative Action off his I Am album...

im not very keen on the whole "rap about jewels and shoes" kick that most rappers are on today. I mostly listen to real lyrics about real subjects that affect me as a black man daily..thats why those are my top albums of the year so far..

nocostporn 09-25-2002 10:08 PM

cee-lo or the NERD album

Neither am I. Two types of rap today...good lyrics and beats like Nas....and the "bling bling" ...Ja Rule made for white boys type rap...Ja Rule has no skill...he just yells out "It's Murda"...

Basically.. definitly Too $hort (his name is short but his game is long)... JT Money as well.. I dig Iconz and AZ, and I gotta throw in Snoop, some of his shit is really funky.. and his Dogpound/Eastsidaz shit is decent. Hell I'll listen to Dre and teh Alcoholiks as well.. Xzibit and the rest.. the gangsta rap genre is an extension of the funky sound, but a heavier beat and no horns. heh

royce's album is pretty hot, xzibit's man vs. machine is good too.. AZiatic is another good one, do or die's 'back to the game' sounding a lot better than their bunk'd 'victory' album.

I added the best albums I think have come in 2002.Remember this is based on lyrics and beats with 80% focused on lyrics.PT talks about hustlin and situations that affect society as a whole. He very rarely talks about the bling bling lifestyle

he don't do nothing but scream on the microphone, his style ain't original..all his music sounds the same
don't forget how he got started with that whole Master P incident,

lyricall speaking
if Nas was #1 then pastor troy would be #99

playa 09-25-2002 10:52 PM

in 2002 rap music isn't even the same as it was,,

there is too many different categorize of rap music that it needs to be broken up in the record stores, and nowadays comparing them seems to be the same as comparing apples and oranges,

just this year i realized that all the use to be Pop radio stations changed their format to Pop rap music,,

yep i seen it on MTV the other day,, they was all rapping,, even sampling,

when i took a long road trip to texas this summer every other station was playing the commericalized hip hop,, what i noticed the favorite of the station was Nelly, Ja rule, Eminem, and many more

last year them same stations were only playing the britany spears type music,
even the country music stations have been disappering

I mostly listen to real lyrics about real subjects that affect me as a white man who listens to black music daily..that's why these are my top albums of the year so far: did Warren G Return of the Regulator come out this year? It's called 2002 but it mighta come out last year...MC Solaar Cinqueme As and LL's Ten just came out, which I like a lot.

MC Solaar is very very ncie on the mic. Warren G's album sure did come out this year..didnt do much but it did. I love Baby from Big Tymers cuz he talks about the craziest flossin stuff. One one song he talked about building a Lexus with legs.:1orglaugh

Slum Village and Aesop Rock are underrated also

L0stMind 09-26-2002 12:58 AM

scarface's shit is nice but I havent had it in rotation for a while.
nas new shit too - good lyrically, but just not hitting 100% with me so it aint in rotation right now. Might just need to hear it a few more times tho...
xzibit blows my mind like always. been damagin my hearing pushin that thru my sub...
50 cent - some of his shit hits, some is just stupid. Course, I only have a few of the mp3's (i gots an mp3 deck tho)
got tha nappy roots shit and a couple tracks I really like so been listening to that a lot.
for some reason I been on a freestyle kick lately tho, got tons of mp3's of that shit (juice, supanatural, lil bit of chino, Jin, etc..)
Razcalz - gotta support my local boys :)

Yes, I buy cd's then burn them to mp3's cuz I like having a huge selection of music on one cd - I do support my artists.

L0stMind 09-26-2002 01:00 AM

OH shit, I missed slum village. love that shit.

You know what got me into Big Tymers was on their last record they rap about the Maclaren F1..."I got a new car and it cost about a million, and the motherfuckin' driver's seat sittin' in tha' middle"

beemk 09-26-2002 01:25 AM

i gotta agree and say scarface and slum village is one of the best this year. i know most of you will hate but i think eminems album is up there. and if you like slum village check out "dirty district" that came out a few months ago. now that i think of it, there hasnt been a whole lot of good albums out this year.

L0stMind 09-26-2002 01:31 AM

my opinion of eminem's album is that his lyrics were as crazy as ever but his beats was sounding old and overused. I dunno what happened, I thot Dre was supposed to be doing the beats for em and then this album comes out and makes me wonder...

oh - and I am getting tired of the "everybody hates me" thing. Does anyone REALLY protest at an eminem concert? seriously?
