How many hours a day do you work?

How many hours a day do you actual work? IE compressing images, gallery creation, paysite maintenance, etc.

On another board, there is a big talk about burnouts and people working too much. I can't imagine people working for 12-16 hours a day purely on this work.

The longest I ever went was 14 hours and that was once -- by the end I was as good as dead.

My day consists of no more than 3 hours of regular work and even that's a stretch!

Usually its no more than an hour! :)

JimBarnett 09-25-2002 05:17 PM

On an average day, 7 days/week, I start at 7:00 AM and shut down to spend time with my wife at about 9:00 PM.

Burnout is real...
About 3 years ago after working the same as above, I got burned out. I took a year where I couldn't even look at a PC.

Since then I have learned to take a few days off once in a while.

Lexxx 09-25-2002 05:20 PM

Whenever I'm near my computers... most of the day/night.

eru 09-25-2002 05:23 PM

You guys are crrrazy -- the majority of the time I'm on a PC it's for leisure (games, bbs'ing).

Work is minimal.

Rep 09-25-2002 05:25 PM

18 hours if my schedule permits it. At least an 8 hour day at the computer doing adult work.

FreeOnes 09-25-2002 05:26 PM

25 hours per day

Amputate Your Head 09-25-2002 05:26 PM

too fuckin' many....

somedays 20.... somedays 12.... average somewhere between those two.

Pete 09-25-2002 05:34 PM

If you count staring at stats and surfing the boards work, than I do about 18 hours a day

eru 09-25-2002 05:40 PM

Bah you guys are all insane -- leave the youth to take this scene over! :)

UnseenWorld 09-25-2002 05:44 PM

Most days, I'm up, breakfasted, and at 'em by 10 a.m. and in bed at about 2 a.m. I stop for lunch and dinner. If I need to shop I'll take an hour or two off for that. If I feel like it, 2 or 3 afternoons a week, I'll take a good deal of the afternoon off to see a movie. I have a friend I see a movie with every Sunday. Of course, a few days a month I'm shooting, but much of my time is spent in post-production and website maintenance chores.

I'm not bored or burnt out yet.

it is easy to work that long.
i don't work to hours, i work to a workload. if i have stuff to do, i keep on going until it is done, or i am exhausted. i might end up doing 3-4 hrs, a few hours break, and then pull a 10-12hr stretch.

Jizar II 09-25-2002 05:55 PM

theking 09-25-2002 06:27 PM

About one hour on the phone and maybe writing a few checks. That is about average.

McAttack 09-25-2002 08:42 PM

Wow, well, I think that in what we do, it's work to workload. Work as much as you need to so that a project gets done. Myself, I unfortunately have to leave the office by 5 cause they close it by 5. So I'm there from 10-5. After, I go home and do some more GFY, some graphic design, and some research.

I honestly don't have the willpower to work strictly from home. Too distracting. I like going in to an office, and staying late.

I can't say how many hours I work per day, some days feel lazy and counter-productive, and some days fly. The flying days, man you wish you had 48hrs in a day. So much gets done, adn you see results.

Kanoealoha 09-25-2002 08:46 PM

Work? I'm suppose to work when on the computer...dammit, I knew something was wrong.

gothweb 09-25-2002 08:47 PM

I can be pretty erratic, in terms of how much I work per day. I work 7 days a week most weeks, rarely less than a 5 hour day, often up to maybe 14 hours. I suspect the average is an 8-hour day, but I'm not sure.

.:Frog:. 09-25-2002 09:15 PM

I'm working on a project that consumes many hours each day. I figure in 3 months from now once everything is setup, I'll only need about 10 minutes a day to run things. With the added bonus of being able to step away from the computer for a few days without things falling apart.

Don't work for a 1-time payment, build up something can earn money month after month.

A good example of this is a toplist.
They are a fucking bitch to setup and get some decent traffic, but once the traffic is flowing they are easy as pie to maintain.

snowpimp 09-26-2002 12:05 AM

i spend an hour a week cashing checks

GTS Mark 09-26-2002 12:09 AM

I work 7 days a week, somewhere around 8-14 hours per day. I don't really consider it work because I enjoy most of what I do. But sometimes the work does get a little much and I have to take off some time to spend some money and have some fun.

it varies for me - some days I work all day long till insanely late at night... other days I do next to nothing besides answer a few emails or so...

Right now I am working on my tax situation, gotta figure out how to defer some of this income cuz I dont wanna give my government all my hard earned cash!

seriously, it is tough to find good ways to take decent amounts of money from your corporation without getting FUCKED by taxes... GRRRR.

I am willing to bet most of us would love to trade in our lifestyle for yours. I think I did well last year, but if your stats are any indication of what you make monthly... then I didnt do so hot. :)

I just dont know how you can handle paying the taxes you must pay.. you must have a fuckin brilliant tax accountant.

jojojo 09-26-2002 03:12 AM

I wonder how many of us actually get enough sleep? I bet most of us don't...

Also those who work at home probably don't go to sleep until AT LEAST 2am...
