Pictures from Oklahoma Ice Storm [6 High Res Pics]

Some pictures of the damage from Oklahoma's recent ice storm, all taken today at about 3 PM in the Norman area. Most of downtown remains without power and nearly everything was closed today. Tens of thousands have no electricity in Norman and the Oklahoma City metro area. Many roads are blocked with fallen trees or parts of trees.

Last night, I stood in the parking lot of my condo complex and listened and watched as transformers exploded in distance. The electric blue arc of transformers exploding really is an eerie sound if you have not heard it before. Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E) is saying this is the worst storm in history in terms of number of people out of power and length of time without power.

Nice photos, I hate to see trees damaged like that, old neighborhoods never look the same. Are you out of beer yet?

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 12-10-2007 11:34 PM

condo complex? by the looks of those pictures you live in a run down duplex house, not a condo

Simon_Spicecash 12-10-2007 11:39 PM

sucks man :( Having gone through the several weeks of being out of power in montreal in 98 - I feel for ya! Hope it clears up soon

DaddyHalbucks 12-10-2007 11:40 PM

Damn. There are like 600,000 people without power. I hope it gets restored soon.

Umm, read the post again. None of those pictures were taken in my complex. They were taken around Norman. Hell, you think I am going to take a picture of something in here and post it here so one of you little creeps shows up on my front door step? Thanks, but I'll pass.

They sure don't look the same... esp. when the tree butchers (aka OG&E tree pruner contractors) get done with them. They just hack away at things until its away from their lines, who cares what the finished result looks like.

Was also out of power for 2 weeks in 98, but stayed at friends that had the electricity so it wasn't that bad for me.

Hope you guys in OK get teh power back asap.

minusonebit 12-11-2007 12:00 AM

heh, just heard this on the radio:

The water treatment plant in Norman is running on backup power which is expected to be depleted soon. Please conserve water to enable the plant to run as long as possible. Wow.

I made $20,000 a month selling roofs after a big hail storm. Did ice hit your roof in chunks or was it little pussy sleet that froze up there? I smell money. Thanks in advance.

V_RocKs 12-11-2007 01:56 AM

Nice photos..

But they beg the question...

Why do people live there?

HeadPimp 12-11-2007 05:22 AM

LOL... I grew up in the sticks of North Idaho. Every time it snowed more than a few inches we lost power so I have a hard time with everyone freaking out about it.

I sort of like the storms that shut everything down. Gives me a great excuse to just hang out and relax.

Satan 12-11-2007 05:34 AM

Very nice I love snow and ice storms, good pics

teg0 12-11-2007 07:37 PM

ice storm all over the midwest. I kind of miss it, even though it sucks

ronbotx 12-11-2007 07:40 PM

Whew ... near miss for us. I live North of Dallas which is about 160 miles south of Norman. The weather has been very strange , 30's one day 60's the next.

Ice storms essentially shut everything down. Fortunately I've never seen one that lasted more than several days and took out the power along with it. Hope everyone gets through it ok.

Kard63 12-12-2007 01:36 AM

Sooo, was there any destruction to the houses?

NinjaSteve 12-12-2007 02:45 AM

Looks cool but I bet it's not the greatest experience.

Not mine. Not my problem, anyway. The HOA has to deal with the outside. Plenty of people has trees on their house though.

Sony Cybershot. Cant tell it, can ya? The thing isnt bad for a point and shoot. But it lacks alot in terms of wide angles, I need to invest in a real camera. Several shots I could not get framed right so I didn't take them. Pity. Lots of really cool scenes.

I am thinking of putting them out in the sites. I wish I would have gotten a better shot of #1, that could have been a spectacular shot. The last one would have too. That one reminds me of that chandler in Titanic that comes crashing to the floor as the ship goes down.

Yeah, its been nutty the last three weeks or so. Just like you said. 20s/30s one day, 60 the next. If this was spring, we'd have had us some F4/F5 tornadoes out of that. But its too dry for those - or was, should I say? heh, maybe Moore would have gotten wiped off the map -- again.

Big_D 12-12-2007 03:32 AM

brrrrrrrrrrrr

Yury 12-12-2007 07:02 AM
