Question about joomla

Hello all, love this board.

I am starting a single girl website with a friend of mine, you know like katesplayground and such.

I was wondering given the size and amount of updates is it a good idea to make this site with joomla or should i just use php mysql

Is there anything else I should look into I wont be making it myself I will hire someone to build it then update it myself.

joomla fucking sucks bro.

wordpress or textpattern are the best out of the box open source solutions, by far. if you're just running a paysite, a custom built solution might be better for you.

I wouldn`t say it sucks - just not an indeal paysite solution however plenty of people use joomla, xoops or even wordpress as an option for managing a members area.

joomla is full of bloat. i've experimented (and launched) a couple sites using it. in my experience it tries to do too many things and fails to do any one thing excellent.

but, truthfully for developing a memeber's area the main goal is easily adding new content {auto thumbnail and gallery generation would be key}.

adding video files would take a little more manual, but there are lots of gallery type scripts available to take some of the work out of it.

joomla is nice , but for a members site, it is not your best bet.

I've used joomla for many paysite members areas. It can be complicated to get it to work the way you want it to, but it's doable. There are some great tools that work well for members areas like the coming soon, content item, popular and news flash. If you have questions about Joomla I would be happy to answer them for you. I agree that Joomla is difficult to customize. Depends hos "out of the box" you want your site to be. I always prefer custom.
