Network Solutions = RIPOFF!

$35/year to renew a .com?
What the shit is this...

million 12-10-2007 02:19 AM

is that a registrar or a hosting company? you shouldn't let the hosting company buy the domains for you!

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 12-10-2007 02:21 AM

Not if you renew for more than one year.

Plus, Netsol always warns you several times when one of your domains is set to expire, whereas some of the cut rate joints, either sell or usurp your domain, and you don't find out about it until it is too late.

Been with NetSol since 1998, with multiple domains, and no complaints here.

Well, it was the one and only registrar but they somehow got stuck in 1999. I still remember when I wanted to register bigtits.com via them and it was a forbidden term...:1orglaugh

Network Solutions IS a rip off, as for expiration notification, most registrars do that starting at 90 days before expiration. Staying with them is just strange, go to godaddy and get renewals at more then 50% off of Netsol rates, with the same notifications.

pornask 12-10-2007 02:31 AM

GoDaddy send notifications reliably. Not sure what you're talking about there, ADG

i paid to transfer the domain over to godaddy but dealing with Netsol's indian help is insane they dont understand how to transfer the domains at all. They wouldnt provide me with the proper codes i needed. Being on the phone with them literally makes me want to punch a baby

woj 12-10-2007 02:58 AM

Call them up, and tell them you want the hook up price or you will move the domains, they will renew your domains for $8, only an idiot would pay $35... The only downside is you have to contact them each time you want the domains renewed, which can be a pain...

Voodoo 12-10-2007 02:59 AM

I remember paying $75.00/yr.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 12-10-2007 03:12 AM

I have heard of people that used GoDaddy losing their domains without notice.

I only have half a dozen sites, so the difference between $9.95 and what I pay (which is less than $35, since I generally pay for multiple years at a time), is not much of an impact on my business.

I tend to stay with a company as long as they never try to screw me...

Good luck with whomever you go with...just sharing my positive experience with NetSol.

BTW, you do know it's a tax write off, right?

buy multiple years...If they're not really important domains, transfer them.

I remember companies giving free domains with the goddamn frame ad bar on the bottom.

And that's exactly why NetSol is still charging $35 because there's still a shitload of idiots around.

Iron Fist 12-10-2007 04:16 AM

Network Solutions is like the RIAA... they need to change with the times or die.

Vick! 12-10-2007 06:11 AM

Netsol rules .. I own a lot of domains there and never had bad experience with them.

The Duck 12-10-2007 06:13 AM

owned...

Marshal 12-10-2007 06:22 AM

The thing to remember with Godaddy is if you let your domains expire, renew them right away because if you wait more than 18 days they will make you pay a 90 dollar redemption fee.

As for netsol, i still have domains there. The ones i regged back in the day when they were the only registrar out there.

TidalWave 12-10-2007 08:17 AM

i use netsol for important or corporate domains.
why should they change anything for the cheap asses? they are making an ok profit margin, so i won't fault them.
don't forget this is ONCE A YEAR profit.

godaddy can screw itself with its $1.50 profit margin PER year. that doesn't make me trust them.

They may have got their act together now Vick! and think there are different fingers in the pie, but they used to be diabolical - to the extent one 'agency' was playing mind games to probe exactly they were up to and some of that stuff was hilarious :winkwink:

FreeHugeMovies 12-10-2007 09:51 AM

You should use their hosting as well. I heard it was fabulous

uno 12-10-2007 09:59 AM

I miss when you could reg domains for free via netsol and pay later if you decided to keep them.

HeadPimp 12-10-2007 10:08 AM

What I love are the letters I get 'reminding' me to renew my domain names, but from companies I am not registered with. Of course the fee is always fucked and it wouldn't be just renewing it, but transferring it as well.

That sort of shit should be illegal.
