isn't it ilegal to squat on domain names?

Isn't their a law that says you have to use a parked domain named eventually? And can't just let it sit there doing nothing forever?

owner of the domain can do with it what ever he want

Wish that were true.... a squatter has been parked on my last name for years.... i've got monitoring and everything enabled on it waiting to jump on it, but they keep renewing it every year....

a law? serious? what code section would that be under?

There was some attempt at this in the US a few years ago. No idea how far it went, but the gist was a regulation to ensure that registered domains were being "utilized" in some fashion. Whatever the hell that means.

But the US does not own the net, much as most of us Americans seem to think so.

In any case, whether it passed or not, I have no idea.

At the same time, most registrars began incorporating search functions or adverts on parking pages, thus "utilizing" the domains and crushing the intent of any such regulation.

As far as I'm concerned "domain squatting" reffers to trademark, service mark, or copyright related domains.

Yes, but a perfect example of why even having those is not enough... http://www.nissan.com/

In case you have ever wondered why you have to goto nissanusa.com in order to get to Nissan motors site.

Actually, I'm on the guy side who owns the Nissan site and think nissan is being total dicks in the way they attacked him. Read the Lawsuit, he has it all posted.

eventually is when ? could be 200 years from now since eventually didn't put a time limit on the time frame.

that's fucken ridiculous. They can't sue for Trademark Infringement in that case. It's a completey different industry. Cars / computers. Similar trademarks cannot exist within the same industry , but they can if the industries are completely different.
