Anti-Bush Protesters Prosecuted for ?Unauthorized Display of Sign?
 

Jeff Zurawski and Sarah Hartfield had never even gone to a political demonstration before this year. But because they were outraged by Bush?s war, they went to Washington a couple of times and to Camp Casey once.

When they returned to their homes in DuPage County, Illinois, this spring, they decided to try to wake up their fellow citizens.

And so on May 6th, they went out onto the bridge over the North-South Highway and held a banner that said, ?IMPEACH Bush and Cheney?LIARS.? They also displayed a flag upside down.

?If I had the money to buy a billboard, I would but I don?t,? says Zurawski, a home inspector. ?So that?s what I came up with.?

They were there for about an hour and a half when a state trooper pulled up.

See it works like this : "They didn't pay anybody so it is illegal".

If it were me I would have tied up the banner and gotten out of there.

If they were from a backwards hick place like DeKalb county they should have known what to expect by displaying a sign calling our Commander in Chief a liar and flying the flag upside down. Might as well have made a sign that said "Fuck Jesus" while they were at it. I'm surprised they didn't get thrown off the overpass.

GWB is a good guy, but the protesters deserve a right to be heard.

"Illegal sign" ordinances were designed to control commercial speech --not political speech (usually referred to as "free speech.")

You may be salvageable after all.

If you are going to protest, be sure to not be ignorant of laws while doing so.

Mean while 2 guys got shot, countless drug deals went down, 3 daughters and two mothers, plus, one grandmother was raped.

the flag was "displayed" and the banner was "held"

he later says "they asked us to take the banner down" - "take it down" is not what you do when you are holding something, which indicates that most likely they are either lying or they did "hold" the banner and later hung it from the bridge.

how big were the banners? the flag? was it dangerous? any pics?
