What is the story with expired domains these days?
 

I had a domain expire on 15 Oct and NameCheap are not showing it as renewable.

What is the story with this these days - how long should you get?

I deliberately let a couple of domains expire the other day (which is very rare) and chuckled when I saw the pricing by the registrar-

before expiry: $15
after expiry, redemption: $150

Is it the registrars ripping us off or do ICANN also get a large cut of that excessive fee?

Never let a valuable domain expire. Reg 'em for 10 years..

I only paid an extra 5 bucks when mine expired.. $150? thats crazy
