After 10 years of Players Balls starting off with Digital Underground as our first hip hop act, Digital Underground will be breaking up in February. This will be one of their last shows together and since they've rocked the Players Ball at least 8 to 10 times (I lost count), we wanted to do it one more time.



This time it will be fresh since it's targeting the AEE convention right before Internext. It will be primarily for industry Players (both video and distributors, internet peeps and famous friends). I know we've done it to the max for our Internet people, though you can't deny it's always a great act to start the night off. We've had them open up for Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Cypress Hill, Doug E Fresh, Too Short, Slick Rick, Ice-T and many others through the years. Legends of the game pay them their respects. They did discover Tupac, by the way.

Over the years our Players Ball family merged with the Digital Underground family, we're all pretty tight, so I'm gonna miss them as a unit once they break up.

They also just performed at the Playboy Mansion during WA, of course they were off the hook there too.

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know you're invited if you decided to come in town a few days before Internext starts. We're not throwing a Players Ball during Internext this year. Our Plan is to do this one on January 11th then another in Hollywood for XBiz on February 7th.

D-Money's Players Ball cross over influences into mainstream

PIMP MY RIDE - Xzibit met the Producers of Pimp My Ride in 2003 at the Ball. Because of this introduction, it led into Xzibit being the host of the show. (The Producer thanked me a couple years ago, I didn't even know that's how it went down)

Ice-T teamed up with D$ to do a site called PimpOrDie.com, a porn website with Ice-T as the host. (it never really developed but we started it together) - It was the first rapper to porn project. Ice-T previously hosted our Ball and loved it, so it opened the door for me.

D-Money and KB influence Money B from Digital Underground to persue porn, they started Sex And The Studio soon after seeing our conventions and Players Ball.

D-Money (with YT Cracker) co-wrote a Too Short tune on Jive Records - His last album, "Married To The Game", I had an idea to take an adult domain name of mine and write a song about it, hoping to drive traffic from mainstream. The song is called, "Pimpandho.com". The hook of the song is "Me and D-Money, smokin' that bomb... If you need a little game, you better log on.."

Wallstreet Journal - Source Magazine - Fox News - Playboy TV - (60 Minutes requested an interview with me once) and many other news sources hit me up over the years, without even sending out a press release.

Dreamworks signed a deal with me to license the use of the Players Ball in their Chris Rock movie, "Head Of State". They even re-created their own Players Ball in the movie

Our Players Ball is also featured in TooRealForTV.com - They made a documentary on real Players and Pimps, somehow we ended up in their "Cross Country Pimping" documentary.

Snoop Dogg changes his image from Gangster to Pimp at our Players Ball. He researched his new gig by contacting Don Magic Juan to get his outfit and pimp glass. They became best friends since then and Snoop has maintained a pimp persona ever since. 3 days before our Ball, Suge Knight was released from prison.

I just rattled these off the top of my head, there's many other scenerios, but these are just fun little trivia bits about what the Players Ball contributed over the years outside of our little circles.

As I mentioned earlier, we're doing this event during the trade show just before Internext. It's a porn party, it's private, but it's during the other porn show. Last year XFANZ teamed up with me for this, we had about 1200 people, Too Short performed, pornstars took the stage and danced on the pole, Chuck Liddell came up on stage to accept our Big Woody Award for Pimp Of The Year. We totally killed it.

Usually, whether our event is a part of Internext or not, we still throw a Players Ball during the same days as the show. This is the first time in 10 years we're not throwing one during the Internext show (dating back to IA2000).

My reasoning is, it's very tough to throw 3 events like this so close together and it's always tough to raise the money for each. So I made a decision, go big for the AEE show and the XBiz show instead of Internext this year. I might do one next year during Internext, but at this time I decided to pull out for this year. AVN has a new format for their party scene utilizing the suites in the Palms, so you might not even notice the Players Ball is missing from the equation. Looks like they'll still have a great party scene.

Or you can come early and party at the Ball. Players Cards will be honored for VIP and line priviledges.

you should make one of them a hardcore rock show. hip hop is kinda whatever these days. i can help you book, don't get the same crap rock you usually see at porn conventions.

Last years party was off the hook! One of the biggest party's during AEE - hands down!

For the history as D-Money said indeed Shock G gave the opportunity to Tupac to rap with DU. They had some sort of audition and Pac showed up did his crazy things, within a min Shock G told him you are in. Him and EDI i think are two of the very few friends he had and didn't attempt to cash on his name.

Are digital playground just retiring or actually breaking up?

The plan for now is to split up for a bit. Maybe at least 2 years. But when a group takes time off like that, you never know if they're done or not.

For now, no more touring or recording for at least 2 years.

They all have their own projects on the side they will be pursuing in the meantime.
