just tried watching "The Golden Compass" in the theater...
 

Stayed for 30 minutes and walked out. Only the second time i've ever walked out of a movie before it finished. Dreadful.



Anyone make it through the whole thing?

It is supposed to be the anti-Narnia. Narnia was a allusion to Christianity. The Lion was supposed to be God, Jesus, etc.
In The Golden Compass there is a version of the Catholic Church that is evil. It was much more so in the book, but they have muted it some for the film in fear that it would get bad publicity. The author of the book is an aetheist, so don't look for any spiritual stuff in the film like in Narnia.
The film cost 180million and if you just watch it for the special effects it will probably show. I haven't seen it yet, but with that much money spent it has to at least look pretty.

I really disliked Narnia, but didn't walk out of it. But I can see similarities between Narnia and The Golden Compass though .... as in they both have talking animals and gave me douche chills. :(
