I sit here hoping that trend continues.

But actually, the low dollar is helping Australia a shit load right now - we havent had the ups and downs everyone else has had over the last 2 years.

Our economy is doing fine and like I said, in terms of economic growth, the Australian economy has been performing better than the US economy for some years now.... Many different factors influence the value of our dollar, particularly commodity prices which have been down for some time. But I love the lower Australian dollar... it means I get more when I deposit all those US dollar cheques. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Update on Australian Economy

It can benefit in the short term, but in the long term it will hurt you. You will loose your purchasing power

JoeClown.
Australian unemployment rate is still higher than here and your average income is still lower than in the US.

Yes, but the cost of living is cheaper, dimwit.

The composition of foreign debt by country shows that the most important creditor countries for Australia in terms of total debt are Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom, representing 18, 16 and 9 per cent respectively of gross foreign debt in 1995-96.

It means that Japan, US and UK own you LOL

funkmaster 09-24-2002 09:23 PM

... Iīve spent 3 years of my life downunder, and I have to admit that it has been the best time of my life. I am not saying I didnīt enjoy myself anywhere else ... but australia just brings up some very sweet memories ...

Brown Bear 09-24-2002 09:24 PM

Drew, why don't you be the bigger man in your argument with Joesixpack?

Are you going to point out every little thing about Australia that is inferior to the US? Should he continue to point out all the things that are crappy about the US?

drew 09-24-2002 09:27 PM

Net Foreign debt of Australia.
Hole fuck, over 40% of your GDP. And this is just foreign debt not including internal debt. You are owned by foreigners

Not surprising you left out these little bits of information, Navy fag.

"In the September quarter 1997 the ABS began publishing Australia's balance of payments and international investment statistics on a new basis, consistent with the most recent international standards for these statistics. The main reason for this change was to improve the international comparability of Australia's statistics."

"The public share of foreign debt in Australia is relatively small. In 1996-97, the public sector accounted for just a third of Australia's total debt. It is this low level of public debt that distinguishes Australia from developing country debtors."

So most of it is corporate debt.

Also, those figures end five years ago.

Yes it's five years ago. It got bigger, sorry.
My point is
US foreign debt is US$862 billion
Australia's is US$222 billion

Let me guess what is worse, after you compare the size of both economies LOL
And we are talking about US$222 billion not Aus$.
What is it? About 500 billion Aus$?
And of course your gov. will put it nicely to you, they will not say "We owe so much money and we are in deep shit" LOL

Bye

Because the government doesn't owe it dipshit or are you illiterate? The vast bulk of that is corporate debt.

Also, the US national debt is 6.2 trillion dollars. We aren't just talking foreign debt here. Don't try to make your situation look better than it is.

Nurgle 09-24-2002 09:45 PM

The lower the Aussie $ the better for me!!

zoic 09-24-2002 11:39 PM

Drew - you ignorant fucker. Do you even have a passport? I bet you've never even been out of the US. So who gives a fuck about economics? I've lived in both the US and Australia for many years and travelled to over 30 countries and there's no place in the world that compares with the quality of life in Australia.

Glad you feel that way because that's one less dumb ass I have to share the milk and honey with.

Let me guess Drew, this thread was your way of trying to look intelligent? Sorry but it didn't work.

Let me get this straight - you're bagging Australia but you keep going back there? Four times? I don't believe you've even left the confines of your trailer park let alone been to another country.

Here's a little comprehension help for you - "quality of life" is not the same as "cost of living" but since you brought it up - I used to rent a nice 2 bedroom beachfront apartment for $US600. How much are you paying for your trailer?

I visited every continent. Did you? You know during 8 years in the navy you travel around the world. We used to do military training with Australian Navy in your waters. They were really cool guys BTW. It just seems that only retards from Australia made it to GFY.

What makes you think I'm Australian Navy Boy?

Pity you didn't learn a few life lessons in your "world travels" like maybe not being so xenophobic. Seems strange that you've travelled so much and you still have a narrow mind. But then, I don't consider going ashore in some foreign country and getting trashed with your Navy Boyfriends travelling - but that's just me.

I haven't made it down to Antarctica yet so looks like you're one up on me. I guess they don't have any foreign debt so you'll probably enjoy it down there.
